I am thinking about doing a Gap Year program to Israel. What are most schools opinions on such a venture? How does deferment work? And what is the situation with finical aid normally? Students, if you have done a gap year, did the experience help/hurt you?
Thanks in advance

Some, and an increasing number of selective colleges, recommend a gap year. For example, Harvard does so.

My recommendation to you is that you first identify the colleges that you’re likely to apply, and then ask them how they treat a gap year – in the sense that you should apply during the gap year, or during your senior year.

My sense is that you’ll find it much easier to apply during the senior year, in that you’ll have better access to an adviser, teachers who you’ll ask for recommendations, an ability to interview, etc.
