Gap Years

So today I was talking to a friend from my college and she said that she's in a situation where she may have to take a gap year (for financial reasons) and she recently got emailed by her friend that he will be taking a gap year because of depression, transition issues he had, etc. So I was wondering, how prevalent has gap years that you know of, been prevalent in your school? Obviously things happen in which we can't control which can result in taking a gap year, but, would you ever want to take a gap year or just sail through the 4 years consecutively?

It's rough that my friend told me she may possibly taking a gap year because we were getting close and now she's going to be gone for a year :(

I think gap years are getting more frequent, especially since people are taking the opportunity to work, intern, or volunteer overseas.

How about a gap 10 years? lol… Seriously, I was just going to take a couple semesters off to save money and figure out what I wanted to do and it was ten years before I started back.
If you can avoid it, definitely avoid the gap year because often they last much longer than the year you intended.

There are good reasons to take a gap year, definitely.

If you just want a break, ir extended vacation, I think its pointless.

Don’t spend ant more time in college then you have to (excluding taking a very heavy load to get out quicker)

Dude you read my mind! That’s exactly my mind set and that’s what I told my friend. I told her, for me, I wouldn’t want to stay in school any longer than I have to. This has nothing to do with the school, social life, academics, student body, etc. I’m class of 2014 and I plan on graduating in 2014. Not 2015. Not 2016. 2014.

I’m here to get that diploma, hopefully make friendships along the way and have fun, and get out of there like a bat outta hell.
