Hey guys, so I know both of these programs are pretty prestigious, but I don't know which to attend and I only have till the 15th to decide.. I'm going to be contacting both in the very near future for more information on each, but I was wondering if you guys could give me some insight into which would be the better one to attend?

Both include topics that interest me a great deal, but idt we can know about the topics till we get there... so that doesn't seem to be too big of an issue, and cost is about the same I think

The three things that stand out for me are competition, student size, and location.

Location wise, Long Island seems like it'd be a pretty cool place to go, and I've never been to New York, so that probably has a slight edge even though Michigan State seems to have a pretty nice campus too

The student size of Garcia is larger and there are a lot more kids there with other programs too, but that doesn't seem to have stopped many kids from getting far in competitions like siemens and intel, and I think Garcia has a larger percentage of kids do well in those programs as it seems to inform students about them ahead of time... but then I don't live in the area, so I couldn't continue research throughout the year there, but maybe I could here? How much can you accomplish in 7 weeks?

Any insight and advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yea, it’s specific, but I don’t really have that big of a preference over the broad topics, since most contain more specific projects that I’d be really interested in…

mabs, i think i heard from them last friday?
and miken, what are the dorms like/whats life like when ur not doin research/does it hurt chances for siemens/intel etc if you cant attend more than the 7 weeks?

hey nantux,
I have the same dilemma as you. Do you know anything about the exact intel/siemens percentages at either of the programs?
A few of my friends who attended this year said about 6 of the 24 HSHSP attendees recieved an award. I am not sure about the Garcia rate though

well, we had to send in the form for hshsp by the 15th, so i already decided
i went with garcia, i think the siemens/intel rates higher though haha and it def (seems to) focus on it a lot mroe than hshsp

yeah im leaning towards garcia as well, and we have until the 22nd our final hshsp response. i guess ill most likely see you there this summer! there is a facebook group if you havent already joined
