Garcia MRSEC

Does anyone know when acceptance/rejection letters are sent out? I can't seem to find it on their website.

i applied too, haven't recieve anything yet

very soon. my friend, who lives on Long Island, just received her acceptance letter.

does anyone know how the program is?
is it really prestigious? do u actually learn a lot about research?
I did see that a lot of Garcia participants get Intel Semi-finalist

If any of your guys email them, what email did you use? I emailed them a couple times for questions and stuff, and I never got a reply. :-(

Yes! I got accepted today!

I am so ****ed.

Last week, my physics teacher spoke to her friend who works at the program and she said I was in.

Then today I got a rejection letter. This is BS. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't already have my hopes up. Because I thought I was in, I didn't apply to SSP. Now it's past the deadline.

I got in! :]
I love the huge "WELCOME" on the page. Yay.
I live in CA if that helps.

I'm debating on whether or not to go...Does anyone know of anyone that has gone? Haha. That was a terribly phrased sentence, but you get the point.

I'm unsure. I noticed that all of the people who made it as intel semi-finalists were from NY.

This may mean that they commute to SUNY Stony Brook and have been working on their projects for quite some time.

Erm. I'd really appreciate anyone who has intended, or will attend, to PM me any info they can about it. Thanks.

I know someone that went last year. He said it was a great program, but they often had to work weird hours because of lab availability. He also told me that the people there were (cencored)s.

how did you guys find out?? by email? mail??? I just recieved a email that they are still processing the material today :(((

Haha. Did your friend come from NY and continue his/her project afterwards? I hear a lot of people commute, and a little actually live on campus.

I found out through mail only. It was a manila folder with some papers in it.

I'm not sure if he continued his research. He stayed in the dorms there (we live on LI but too far to commute).

A lot of the people who go to programs at SUNY Stony Brook tend to be working with professors there prior to acceptance. It's easiest for Long Island schools, because well.. all students here have to do is hop on a train and they'll be at the university in no time. It's these students who will also continue their research once the time for the program has elapsed. Think about.. it'll be pretty difficult to complete an Intel-level project in < 2 months. Not impossible though. Out-of-state students who've done programs like Garcia and Simons still have gone to Intel.

I sure hope so. I dont live too far, but far enough that I wont be able to come every week or so (and I have sunday school too, so that kills the most convenient day).

I hope so, too.

Yay!

Today I got the acceptance packet.

But I was also offered a placement at Colombia over the summer, so I'll probably do that.

yay accepted!

I was wondering...is it up to us to get from the airport to SUNY? I mean, it's not a big deal in regards to difficulty, but my parents hate the idea of me going & having to get a taxi or something in a place I have never been. I don't mind doing it. It doesn't seem terribly dangerous, but they have the final say, and they want an escort (nice choice of words, huh?)? :]

escort?
I travel to and from the US from Taiwan 3 times a year.;)
I will fly to Long Island and take a taxi I think.
