Garcia Program 2013 acceptance

Garcia will be sending out acceptance notices this Monday

Are you anxious? Is it hard to get in?

I thought they were coming out today

@infrapod I thought so too…

Too many applicants. They have to finish the admission process over the weekend. Very, very nervous about geeting in!!!

Same…goin to be a low acceptance rate this year especially for out of state people…im guessin below 15 or 20 percent easy

Does Garcia focus only on NY area ? @readyfor2014, why would the low acceptance rate be for out of state?

Any emails yet?

Email sent out today -

Dear Garcia Program Applicant,

Although Dr. Rafailovich and I reviewed a majority of the received applications for the Garcia Summer Research Program over the past few days, we are still making decisions on the last few open spaces. We hope to have filled those last spaces by Wednesday, March 20th.

Until then, we will be notifying a select number of students of our admissions decision by e-mail at 1:00 pm today. If you did not receive an e-mail at the intended time, please be patient.

Thank you for understanding.

So by 1 PM a select few should have received their emails. Please post if you received the email.

Anybody receive an email yet?

No notification here in NY! Maybe they’re not emailing anyone til Wednesday and are just saying people are gonna be emailed today…lol

Accepted! - from NY. Got email at ~1pm today :)

Was it personalized or sent to multiple people?

It wasn’t personalized. They sent an email earlier today, which said “…we will be notifying a select number of students of our admissions decision by e-mail at 1:00 pm today.” Clearly, this is what they did.

Does anyone (e.g., previous participants) know the cost of the program for non-commuters? The website says that there is a $1,550 lab fee, but what is the cost of room&board ?

How the **** did I get rejected

I thought this was far less competitive than Simons

Those accepted, could you please post the stats

Rejected  kinda sucks that my achievements this year (SAT score, AIME, Chem Olympiad, Science Olympiad) came after the application deadline.

Some of you should not have taken acceptance to this program for granted. This is an incredibly selective program. To respond to harasNN: while I do believe that the Simons acceptance rate is lower than Garcia’s, I read that the Garcia acceptance rate is under 20%, and the Simons acceptance rate is ~14%, so they are not that far off.

My guess is that the key to acceptance is thoughtful, unique, well-developed essays.
