Garcia Summer Program 2020

What is it’s competitiveness compared to BU RISE?

Has anyone applying this year participated in ISEF at all? I’ve heard that doing research prior to Garcia helps in the admission process. If so, to what degree does previous research weigh on one’s chances of admittance.

I’ve done ISEF previously and listed it on my application. Not sure how much it’ll help judging off of previous years’ admissions.

The applicant pool must be composed of highly-qualified individuals.

Does anyone have a rough estimate as to when admissions offers will be released?

No clue: does anyone know what the program cost will be?

I’ll worry about cost once I get in lol

I’d assume it would just be the lab usage fee: $2700

@scuffed I think it might actually be less this year since it’s online.

I’m not 100% sure though. Also I’ve never done ISEF but I’ve done NICEE which is the national invention convention and I did pretty well there. I don’t know if they will care that much about it though

Has anyone got confirmation/result email yet?

No. Does anyone have any idea when that’ll come out? Probably by the end of April, right…

Acceptance email is out

garcia vs ssp? what do you guys think?

Did Garcia accept more people this year because the program’s online? I got accepted but I wasn’t expecting to.

Accepted

And 2021: I’d say SSP if you have to choose, but personally I’m trying to see if I can do two programs if Garcia is free. Though come to think of it… you won’t get any individual research from SSP.

Also accepted! I’m thinking they might have accepted more people because it’s online so they don’t have to worry about room and board limits

How about UCSB RMP vs Garcia? Or is it feasible to do two as both have lectures?

I have no knowledge about UCSB RMP so can’t say, you should check out what their descriptions/strengths are. I’d hope it was feasible, but I guess one would have to ask both programs if it’s OK if they could do both.
