Gardenia Way/Holly Ridge

Does anyone have any pictures or videos they could share with us of any of the rooms in either of these res halls?

And what’s it like using communal restrooms?

trust me-- they are beautiful, new, and spacious. The rooms are at least 1/3 bigger than an average hall. Triples in GH are actually livable and doubles, well let’s just say I have plenty of legroom. Plus the views from the top floors of Holly facing the ocean are beautiful. The bathrooms are really nice too. Communal bathrooms are easier than private ones in my experience because you don’t have to worry about coordinating shower times or keeping your bathroom clean.

Oh and one more thing – GH has A/C. Regular halls do not.

@petaandpita Thank you so much. Does anyone have any pictures or any other input?

[Two new residence halls open to UCLA students this weekend / UCLA Newsroom](Newsroom | UCLA)

For those who have seen both halls, which do you think is better between Gardenia and Holly Ridge? Also, sorry if these are nub questions but a) do they each have their own dining commons, game & exercise room, computer lab, etc. similar to Rieber hall? and b) are they mainly populated by freshmen, upperclassmen, or a mix?

I’m a freshman so I’d ideally be looking for the hall that’ll probably have the most freshmen next year.

Thanks in advance!

Gardenia and Holly are almost identical, I think. They are part of the De Neve structure, so the dining hall is De Neve Commons which is super close. I think they’ll have a lot of non-freshmen next year since it’s new, and upperclassmen get to pick which building they want (freshmen can’t choose buildings). But I’m sure some freshmen will get placed there too. I’m gonna be a freshman next year too so I don’t know the answers to your other questions haha. But hopefully I helped a little.

I live in gardenia, and it sucks dude. Seriously, the AC doesn’t work, the bathrooms are new yes, but they always break down! the windows don’t have screens so if you’re in the lower floors and you want to open the windows (because the AC doesn’t work), insects and bugs are sure to get in. The rooms are bigger, but it isn’t worth the higher rates. It’ll be more expensive than the traditional dorms, and trust me it isn’t worth it! Compared to Reiber or Sproul, goddam, please don’t choose Gardenia or Holly. In reiber, you have feast and rendezvous just below, with sproul you have b-cafe and covel, with Dykstra you have De Neve. You have to walk out to get to the dining halls, and I’m too lazy. After writing this I’m gonna haul my lazy bum down to Gayley ave, then walk toward De Neve for late night— such a hassle compared to just going down the freakin dorm to eat.

The new buildings are overrated. Change your housing assignment to Sproul or Reiber.
