Gate 3 Candles Slightly Unnerving

I know that the safety of the USC neighborhood has been discussed extensively already and I don't really want to start a new alarmist thread. I'd just like to know what the impromptu "shrine" at Gate 3 is all about. Anyone?

I saw those too, and I was also wondering. There was a Daily Trojan posted on the pole they were surrounding, so I assume there's an article in there it has something to do with-- but I didn't actually look at the paper up-close.

i think some ex-football player from another school got shot up fig

Well, if it was him, his story was on the front page of the Daily Trojan last week. I wonder why the candles would be there, though, if it was him.

"Got shot up Fig": I can't tell from text whether you are being disrespectful or not, but 19 years old is far too early to pass, whether in South LA or in the quietest community.

I live in New/North and was like around for all of the aftermath of this occurrance, which happened close to 3 AM. The guy was shot around 30th Street and Vermont and was trying to drive himself to get help somewhere and in the process of driving he ended up crashing right there by Gate 3 and that is where he officially was pronounced dead.
Things like this are rare and campus security is an issue but DPS (no matter how much I dislike them for shutting down parties) do a pretty good job of protecting USC areas. So long as you do not venture too far away from the USC area (not in a car) and only go towards downtown where there is more developed areas compared to south of campus, then you are pretty damn safe.

Thank you both for your answers. What a sad story.
