Go for EA. There’s no harm in it and you’ll know earlier!
@graceann what do you think my chances are?
I would say apply EA instead of RD to show more interest. But be warned, GaTech seemed a quantum leap harder to get into this year. Note they had 27% more EA applicants this year than last.
Your ECs are nice, as is the upward grade trend, but you have some work to do. Make sure you really study hard for this year’s AP Exams. (Question though - if you have 6 AP scores already, and will be taking 6 AP classes next year, and will graduate with a total of 12 AP classes…does this mean you are not taking ANY AP classes this year?)
Some people say you are fine with a 740 Math II, but you could probably get that up to an 800 with your math skills. Hopefully you can do something this summer that really relates to your future plans.
Please be sure to check out UCSB/UCD/UCI in-state.
Best of luck to you!
@inn0v8r Thanks for chancing! As for AP test scores, I predicted 4 of them for the 4 APs I am taking this year! And this summer I’m attending an engineering camp at USC!
Your stats look good (I got in OOS with a lower Physics SAT II score) and you Taekwondo extracurricular is unique! I can tell that you’re really devoted to it. The only thing that I’m a little worried about is that your extracurriculars don’t have a lot to do with your major? Have you showed any interest in industrial engineering apart from the camp at USC? Also are you a male or female - GA Tech is much harder for males than females!
You would be doing yourself a huge disservice if you applied RD instead of EA. Not only will you know your decision earlier, but you will also increase your chances of being accepted by a good deal. OOS EA acceptance rate this year was 28%, whereas RD is generally below 20%.
@SomniumCrepitans if you don’t mind, would you link me to where you found those stats
@MathFan21 http://getschooled.blog.myajc.com/2016/01/09/early-admits-to-georgia-tech-more-applicants-more-diverse-and-more-women/
The statistics for RD were from US news, although I can’t find the page anymore. If you do the math RD acceptance rate is ~19%.
Very good scores and ECs! I would tell you to go for EA because you will show more interest in the school. Also, the only bad new that you could get is getting deferred, but don´t worry because this year there were many students with great stats deferred and then accepted. Good luck! You definitely will get in.
