This thread is from last year and the OP I am pretty sure is at UGA.

If he was dumb enough to make that decision, UGA is where he belongs.

A 2.6 was a good gpa for her major which I believe was aerospace. Many people told her overall she was doing fine and compared to the people around her, she is. I don’t know what you mean by “friend” as I was not lying. Plus, she is not stupid, lazy or someone that expected to get an A just because. She graduated high school with a 3.8 (maybe higher, am not sure) and was in the Honors Society, so she is a smart girl. Honestly, rank should not be the only factor you look at. The nursing program at GSU is hard to get into. They have a good biology program where this yrs incoming nursing students’ gpa was 3.9. In fact, one of my other friends that wants to enter the nursing school told me that her tutor (called SI at State that is hired by the school to aid students in classes w. high failing rates) was not accepted by the program b.c she had gotten B+ in 5 classes and was advised to take them again. And it was due to this tutor my friend was able to organize her study material and do well in the class. Why tell you this? GSU might not be the top school in the state; in fact, it is overlooked, but name is not everything. Tech is a very specialized school for the sciences that you have to know you want to major in the that field; otherwise, you might be stuck realizing you don’t want to be a science major anymore, lose Hope and have a crappy GPA. Yeah, Tech is better than UGA in the sciences, but honestly, I would recommend going to UGA and really test if you want to major in that field and if not, you have other options besides mangement. Also, 3.1 is an overall average. Thread maybe a yr late, but ppl might look at it if they have the same question AND if they do, remember this:

Neither I or anyone of these people commenting will be taking these classes at Tech/UGA with you. Your grades will be up to your efforts and luck in case you get a really crappy teacher you couldn’t avoid. YOU will be taking those exams, so take everything we said with a grain of salt and follow want you want and not be swayed with what we have said or Princeton Review said as well. Remember that both schools have their strengths and weakness and keep in mind, these schools are rivals, some of the comments may reflect that bias and on that note, I completely hate it when people say someone is stupid for choosing one school over another as UGA’s requirements are high; plus, if I don’t want to be a science major, UGA is a great school for students in Ga. The only way someone is stupid is if they reject a full-ride scholarship to an Ivy League school like Havard to go a community college and if that is not you, ignore those comments.

I know this thread is old, but I found it funny that many of you were saying that UGA Bio is third tier when their graduate biological sciences program is ranked higher than GT’s… lol.

UGA: 46 in Biological sciences
GT: 56 in Biological sciences

In conclusion, imo, choose the school you like more, and if your goal is med school, go for UGA honors. Any day.

I chose UF honors (free) over GT (free), and am proud of my choice.

I will be doing pre-med, and feel that I will have a rigorous education that will better prepare me for medical school than an engineering school would.

Hope this helped any others in a similar situation who look at this thread. PM me if you have any questions, and I will be free to answer.
