Gatech vs UIUC - ECE

Hi,
I am International Student, who has been granted admissions to GTech and UIUC for Electrical Engineering. Rankings wise, both universities are quite close, so my decisions are based on the following criterion.

Which University will provide for good research and internship opportunities in the sophomore and junior years?

Accessibility of Professors- Out of the two, professors of which university would be more accessible and interested in teaching under grads?

Where would class sizes be smaller?

I will probably minor in Business Administration. How do the two stack up with respect to this field?

Financially both are similar, with Gtech being around 45k p.a and UIUC being around 50K.

Thanks for replying.

Those are both great schools for EE. I would think they are fairly equal in most areas. I am not sure about how either could accommodate a minor in Business Administration. I know at GT they have an Industrial Management degree that would likely be adaptable to your educational needs, but not sure if you could get a degree that would specifically list “Minor in Business Administration”

@dramadad Thanks for replying. By Minor I meant take as many classes as possible from the Business Curriculum. I don’t really care, if my degree does not specify a minor in BA.

In terms of business minors, there are quite a few options that are available from the college of management at gatech.
First, there is an integrated, multidisciplinary “Minor in Engineering and Management”, that combines both fields. The goal is a comprehensive education that grants management majors insights into technology and engineering, and engineering majors experience on the business side.
Furthermore, there is a “Minor in Leadership Studies”, which offers 2 tracks, one of them being management. As the name suggests, it focuses heavily on Entrepreneurship and Leadership.
Beyond both of those, there are also certificates offered by the College of Management, which are scaled down versions of minors. There are 7 separate fields one could get a certificate in, ranging from Accounting, to Entrepreneurship, to Finance.

As a current gatech ECE student, I had to make a very similar decision between UIUC and gatech (along with several other comparable schools like Purdue and UofM). Academically, they are very similar in reputation. In the end, biggest reason I chose gatech was my college visits. Personally, I far preferred gatech’s atmosphere and culture. These things are subjective however, and I recommend you personally visit both colleges and decide for yourself.
