“Gates Cambridge Scholars Announced” (news item)

<p>The</a> Gates Cambridge Scholarships</p>

<p>The Gates Cambridge Trust, funded by the Gates Foundation, has announced its 2008 Scholars. This year Princeton had two scholars:</p>

<p>Kenneth Fockele: (German Literature) (The</a> Gates Cambridge Scholarships - New Scholars - Mr Kenneth Fockele</p>

<p>Mateusz Plucinski: (Operations Research and Financial Engineering)
The</a> Gates Cambridge Scholarships - New Scholars - Mr Mateusz Plucinski</p>

<p>In existence since 2000, the scholarship is exclusively for use in attending Cambridge University in the UK. In the words of the foundation, “[t]his benefaction creates in perpetuity an international scholarship program to enable outstanding graduate students from outside the United Kingdom to study at the University of Cambridge. The Trustees are required to award scholarships on the basis of a person's intellectual ability, leadership capacity and desire to use their knowledge to contribute to society throughout the world by providing service to their communities and applying their talents and knowledge to improve the lives of others.”</p>

<p>Harvard, with four scholars, had the largest number. Rutgers had three. Princeton, MIT, Northwestern, the U.S. Military Academy, the U. of Iowa, Williams and Yale each had two. The Ivies were also represented by a scholar from Penn. Congratulations to all.</p>
