Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

@thatelephant
Looking at past threads, most finalists found out by email first and then received the same info by mail later.

good luck everybody! I am so anxious and nervous about this I’ve been praying
hope we all get this!

Does anyone know what exact date we’ll be notified?

…I never ever received a confirmation email. Agh, do you think that means that they didn’t get my materials? When did you get the confirmation email?

eeek! I am nervous too…
I think last year’s people found out around March 8th- March 11th…
Lets keep our fingers crossed and hopes up
Good luck to everyone!

xrednailpolish: I received the mail on December 26th, I think 2 days after I submitted my form. Here is what the email said:

This message confirms that your Nominee Personal Information Form for the 2011 Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) application process has been received by GMS.

Please be sure to follow up with your Nominator and Recommender to ensure that they have submitted their forms as well. In order to be eligible to be considered for the GMS scholarship, all three forms must be submitted online by Monday, January 10, 2011 11:59 p.m. EST or postmarked on or before Monday, January 10, 2011.

It is important that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form to determine eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant. We suggest a target date of February 15, 2011 for students to submit their FAFSA.

Thank you for applying to the Gates Millennium Scholars Program. We look forward to reviewing your application.

I hope you received it!!

I keep checking my mail like crazy. I hope it’s any day now.

Judging by past years, if you’re a semifinalist, you should get an email around 3/8. GOOD LUCK! =D

I am anxiously waiting for that email

Ive been reading the posts for a while now. Im nervously awaiting a reply to. Ive been praying for an acceptance email since the day I submitted my gates application.

I hope we get notified Monday! That’s would be a great start to the week!..or a horrible start to the week lol good luck to everyone.

oh dear! good luck everyone !

I know we are all ANXIOUS. So to pass time, what colleges are among your top choice?

University of Washington

I don’t think we will get notified until Tuesday because last year the release date was March 8th.

I seriously doubt I’ll get it, isn’t there like 20,000 applicants? I’m just glad to get semi-finalist status in some other major ones.

My #1 as of now is George Mason University (got a lot of $$ !!!)

I think (this could possible be my own personal impatience talking) that we will be notified of the 7th because the second Monday of march last year was the 8th but the second Monday of march this year is a 7th. Lol I’m just saying things to make me feel better.

But I dnt really know my top choice. harvard definitely, but if I stay in Colorado i want to go to CU boulder or DU. My other choices are:

Emory-Atlanta
University if Chicago
Rice- Houston
NYU

My top choice would be Berkeley, but I haven’t heard back yet. If that doesn’t work out, then UC Davis.

Does anyone know if we get spending money? Like money for the plane trip to our college if we go out of state? And does the scholarship cover the college deposits because the university if deniers deposit is $500… Which I dnt have.

^
Gates will pay your work study which is bascically your spending money. They send your school the money, and the school will give it to you each semester. I’m not sure how they figure the amount, but from my experience anywhere from 650 to 900 semester. I don’t know about your other questions, those things didn’t pertain to my daughter.

My number one is Spelman, but if i dont get the gates im going to a local state school.
