You will get a rejection letter if you’re not one and yes we should all find out something he latter part of April.

@tiredyethappy: that is my unweighted gpa… i know i am hoping…and we have 345 students in my class… man, i have never been this nervous. The path my life will travel depends on the next 12 days… because it depends on what college i attend etc. Hope we all get it!

@expectopatronum: All decisions are mailed out on the 15th. If you got Gates, a package will be in the mail. If you didn’t get Gates, you’ll just see a regular envelope with a letter saying you didn’t get Gates. It’s from UNCF/APISAF/NHF and their locations.
@indians: Same here, Gates is the difference between an in-state school (UF) and my dream school (Boston U).

Next week may be a great a change in our lives!
I wish us all luckk! 8 days!

So I recieved a call, saying they have proccessed all my stuff and is in the proccess for consideration! Wat sucks is that my university only gave me 1000 to go there and it costs 24000! There is no way for me to get so much money…so its this scholarship or nothing hahhaa… but u know… god works in mysterious ways… and i will come out successfull!!!

Wow that’s great you got a phone call! Sounds like they are really interested in you! I don’t know of anyone else that got a call. Don’t worry about the amount of your tuition I don’t think Gates’ decisions are based on that. Just a few more days to go - I have literally made myself sick with stress over this, but I’m working hard to calm myself down and chill out about this whole thing. It’s in God’s hands - no better place to be! Best wishes to every last one of you guys, I pray you all get it!

I am so excited…I just found out that I am a DELL Scholar.
I was more than dejected after learning I had not made it to the SF stage for the GMSP. I just Know that when one door closes another opens.I 'm grateful. Wow. This is wonderful. Anyway. Congrats to all the potential Gates scholars!!!

Hello I have read and kept up with most of the threads and finally decided to join in. I am also a finalist from Texas!!!
Getting this will make the difference if I stay home or go to college somewhere else so I am hoping/praying I get it.
GOOOD luck to everyone I’ll keep reading what everyone says here!

5 days left anyone?

@maritimus1 - what part of texas do u live? I live in the Houston area… and goodluck with the scholarship…

Congratz to the person who became the dell scholar!

5 DAYS TILL THEY SHIP IT!! I AM SO EXCITED!

Just wondering. When were your applications released? I’m a junior, and planning on starting this application this summer, but if they’re not even out yet, then that could be problematic.

Congrats hewnew on the Dell scholarship! And yes, 5 more days until they mail out decisions. Too bad its regular mail - we probably won’t know anything until at least Monday, April 18th. But that’s ok we’ve waited this long. As soon as you guys hear something please let us know.

@newsperrys if you want I can email you the questions, PM me. They dont open it until August I believe, but PLEASE work on the essays before then! That way you can just submit it and worry about yourr nominators! Thats my advice! I started pretty late (october) and the 8 essays took me until (december) to finish
And everyone good luck! Im going to try hard to get off the waitlist! Pray for me! Everyone we will get it, if not God will open other doors! We are almost there, its soo close!

I’m not exactly sure of when next year’s application is released, but I suggest that you work on your essays this summer. Although I am a finalist, the biggest regret I hold is that I did my essays LITERALLY the week before the deadline, and to be honest with you, I didn’t think they were that great. I am still in shock that I was a finalist because i put everything off until the week before! Well, God works in mysterious ways and I know I became a finalist for a reason. Anywoo, here are the essay questions you should begin to work on. I’m not sure, but i think they remain the same every year. Good luck!
-discuss the subjects in which you have excelled, and what factors you attribute to your success
- discuss the subjects in which you have had difficulties, what factors contributed to those difficulties, and basically how you have dealt with them.
-describe a situation in which you thought yourself or others were treated unfairly, or not given an opportunity that they deserved
-discuss your short and long term goals, and also allows you to elaborate on any that you have already accomplished
-discuss a leadership experience you have had, and to include how you became a leader and how the experience has influenced your goals
-discuss your involvement and accomplishments in community service
I suggest you use as many vivid examples as possible. I found this website very helpful: [Money for College Students](http://affording-college.blogspot.com)
Also, because I am Native American, the aigs sent me an e-mail with advice on the essays such as what they were looking for, how we should word it, etc. Once again, good luck! Don’t procrastinate like I did.
About one more week, everyone! Shaking in my boots right now. Where I will spend the next four years of my life will be determined in the next week ahhhhhhhh

Just said a prayer for you emoryguy! I really want you to get into your dream college. You really sound like a hard working student. I take it Emory was your first choice? My daughter and I rode down to Atlanta last Spring to visit Emory (a 12 hour drive!) and we LOVED it! What a beautiful campus and good diversity and Atlanta was simply amazing! My daughter did decide on another college after several other visits, but Emory was just incredible. My only issue was that it was a little too far from home. Please stay in touch with us and let us know if you get off that waitlist. It seems like the closer we get to April 15th the calmer I’m getting. I almost don’t want to go to the mailbox now. I’m afraid of a small envelope from Gates! PLEASE let it be a large envelope! :)

I am from El Paso TX
If they do come this weekend I won’t be here!!! I am leaving for a state competition NOOO

Does anyone know if they are sending notifications on the 15th from their departments or if we should be receiving notifications on the 15th?

If we’re receiving them on the 15th Im staying home from school and going to wait for the mail man…

Im totally freaking out about this selection process. This is the only scholarship I applied to because my basketball season (which is 5 months) caused me to miss the deadlines for all of the major scholarships.

Does anyone know about scholarships that I can still appy for. Im hispanic, born in mexico if that helps? (resident)

@Expecto could you email me your findings of how you worded them? My sister is applying two years from now and would like to give her as much as I can (just in case mine were not as good if I was not selected)
NervousMom thank you so much… Yes Emory was my dream… I skipped my senior year (11th grade but grad a year early) so I could go to Emory… I knew if I stayed my parents would force me to go to an ivee league like Harvard, but my heart was in Emory. I made the decision quick and only had less than a month to study for ACTs/SATs… Gave up my #1 rank to go to Emory and look it failed haha! I have good EC’s write amazing essays (11 on ACT essay- really the only good part of the ACT), passionate, studied abroad, volunteered 400+ hours, so I guess thats why I was a finalist… But I know god has a plan for me. Both my dreams may be coming sooner than I believe. I never loved a school more than I love Emory, I really wish Emory knew that. But all colleges see is that they dont want to lower their rankings by admitting low score students, my alternative is take a semester off, restudy get a 33+ on the ACT and reapply but that’s not what I wanted… I wish I could redo everything I would not have taken a full AP schedule.

Everyone is sending it April 15th and yes from their departments. You could recieve as soon as April 16th or as late as April 22nd if you are far away from the location. And NervousMom your daughter sounds amazing! I know she is destined to be a scholar! She is in my prayers and she is blessed to have a mother that cares so much for her! That envelope will be just as large as your heart I assure you.

@emoryguy i could send you the advice i received from AIGS. I found it extremely helpful while rushing to write my essays
