I just got an email from GMSP telling me that my application is on file. They also stated that we will find out about Finalist Notifications in MID-March!!! Uhhhh!!! That’s like 2 weeks later than last year.

Scholars will be notified of their status in Mid-April. I’ve been praying. God bless everyone!

Ok Good. How long were everyone’s essays. I know some of my friends were like mad short like 300-400 words but I wrote around 950 for all of mine.

I was freaking out too because I couldn’t find the e-mail but I found it in the junk e-mail for some odd reason! So just check in junk/spam and it might be in there. And my essays were pretty lengthy and detailed (900-1000 words). I just hope they weren’t too wordy or something!! D:

Well most of my essays were 900+ words… dangerously close to the limit. A few were 700 and 800.
1000 words was not enough for some of the prompts. The limit actually used to be much more than that. >:l

@waterandbridges: I wouldn’t worry yet. Keep checking your e-mail, junk/spam, trash maybe… It’ll show up soon.

Woahh I’m freaking out now my essays ranged from like 400-650 words. They were longer but repetitive so I cut them down. Hey guys I already have a strong feeling I’m not gna get Bc I did all me essays the night before and I didn’t go to bed until like 4:50 am. And they weren’t looked over by anyone. So yeah that’s pretty bad and I was close to not applying. So good luck guys!

Found the e-mail!! You guys were right, it was in junk mail and I had just checked my inbox. And about the essays I know that people have received the scholarship when they have written short essay responses so I was a little concerned because I thought mine were way too long (at least half were 900-something words and I had to make some shorter). The people from my school (that I know of) didn’t write extremely short essays so I felt a little better.

It all depends on the content! But in my opinion, longer essays are better… unless they are full of unneeded detail, wordiness, etc. I added a little bit of background information in mine so that’s why some were very long.

I think as long as they thoroughly explain the prompt, then you should be fine! :)

@margiem315: Even if you took less time than most, you never know!! You might get it. Some people spend months on their essays and don’t even get chosen.

Thanks you guys! this definetly made me feel better I cant believe we have to wait until march to find out! My birthday is on March 15 and I’m freaking out and hoping that’s when I don’t get a notice. But thanks again guys!

Some people won the scholarship who wrote their essays late minute so I shouldn’t be spool worried. You put in effort and just wait for mid-March to roll in.

So since the word limit on the essays was a thousand words, and a picture speaks a thousand words, do you think that Gates would have accepted eight pictures?

Lol, it certainly would have gone down in their books. What does everyone want major in? I think I’ll double Major in Communications and public Relations and minor in creative writing.
