How many "Candidate Finalists" usually the get scholarship (What is next, what criteria are they "judging" you on now?)?

Any predictions on what your EFC has to be in order to be eligible for the pell grant? (And I'm assuming that if you indeed get the scholarship you should be able to renew it every year as long as you continue to be eligible for the pell grant?).

Thanks.

You received notification about finalist status?

Oh God I pray for this scholarship...

Dont worry, they may still be sending notifications out. Besides this notification [as far as I can tell] is only for the hispanic applicants... I couldnt tell you when they sent/will send the Asian and African American notification.

I'm still wondering about the pell grant though... what does your EFC usually have to fall under?

I was reading these earlier. I do not think that notification is only for hispanics and that they are discriminating by race. I am African American and I got my notification via mail. It was dated 3/10/06. I have not seen the email. Good luck to all. Gates does fund graduate school for certain majors like science and education. It is nice to hear from the scholars. I would like to know if there is further selectivity or rather the 1000 have been chosen and they simply need to provide verification of information I am excited. If I get the scholarship I will be able to afford Johns Hopkins or Princeton.

As far as I know, there ARE people eliminated from the second round--however, I have not seen or heard of any statistics regarding this matter. It does seem like people who don't make the Pell Grant eligibility have little chance of winning though (I think EFC of less than 3500?)

Anyway, gluck to you.

Thanks for gluck. Did you apply. My EFC is fine. How about yours? If you applied I hope you get it. Which college are you going to. I am trying to get everything sent to Gates by Monday when my counselor is back to give me a transcript. gluck

I'm waiting on decision from Columbia. I hope I get the Gates scholarship. My EFC turned out suprisingly low.

Good Luck to you. My EFC was 0. I called the Gates yesterday and they said that they do break it down further pass the finalist. They use different measurements and of course those not approved do not get it. I had gotten a rejection letter but it was sent two days after the finalist letter, before I was able to send my info. They said it was a mistake because I started the application so early or had two usernames. I am still holding out and praying.
G-luck
