member same thing happened to me. and is there a code we put in when doing the fafsa

anything yet?
were you guys able to confirm?

how can you guys check your status....the page won't even let me sign in to my account....who would I need to call...i am asian

i think you have to wait until March........................ -_-

how many gates are sent out each year, what are the values, and what are the criteria for eligibility?

I see there seems to be one or more essays required, but is there a minimun gpa, act, rank that they are looking for in addition to this?

you have to do the fafsa by february 1 to determine pell right. but do i just fill it out and thats it, or is there some spot where I have to send it to the gates foundation. this issue has been bothering me for days.

joecollegedad, each year, 1000 people are chosen to be gates millennium scholars. test scores are not taken into account, however, the applicant must have a minimum unweighted gpa of 3.3. your other questions can be answered at this handy dandy site: https://www.gmsp.org/GMSP%5FApp/

lyfe, to my knowledge, gates doesn't ask for your fafsa information unless you are selected as a finalist, which is in March. It is at that time that you submit you fafsa information to them. For the moment, don't sweat it. Just be sure to fill out your fafsa ASAP to meet your school deadlines, which should be coming up relatively soon, I'm guessing.

Hope this helps. anyone, feel free to correct faulty info.

The Gates website states the Fafsa must be filled out no later than February 1st.

It looks like Gates scholarships are closed now. the handy dandy link says the following

The 2008-2009 Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Nomination Process extended deadline was January 14, 2008. The database is now closed. Nominees will receive notification in March 2008.

yeah, it is indeed closed for this year, joecollegedad. A similar process repeats every year though.

anyone else able to confirm their application submission???
this is killing me!

when in march...mid...early..or end..

still unconfirmed...God, this is crazy.

And from what I have heard, 60,000 Applications were submitted on the 31st of December alone. Thats a HUGEEEEEEEEEEEE jump from last year's total of 11,000.

Good luck everyone.

Holy shizzle.

When are we suppose to hear from GMS?

in early march..maybe the first week in march...thats crazy 60000, where did you hear that from electre

After I read the post by electrequiem about the 60,000, DD called gates and the woman she spoke with verified that number!

I'm no math genius, but 1000/60,000 = 1.6%...You have five times the chance to get into Harvard than winning the Gates...Cheerful thought ain't it?

that's 1000/60,000 PLUS the 23232332 more submissions that was sent before Jan 11.

.... Gosh, I wish I was born one year earlier so I could graduated with the class of 2007. we got it bad (c/o 08)!

Seriously... oh well, let's not give up hope. I'm not.

is there any chance that they might give the award to MORE kids this year? Maybe instead of a 1000 Gates Scholars, maybe they decide to give the scholarship to 2500?
