Gates Scholarship!

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to wish everyone luck in their Gates Scholarship process.
But I am wondering how far everyone is in the process? are you guys done with your essays? or almost done. I just want to see if I am too far behind or not.
Thank you!
and again GOOD LUCK!

Thank you, and good luck with your application process as well.

I currently need the two recommender/nominator forms and about three essays.

Thank you!
How do you feel about your essays? I am extremely nervouse about this whole process I hope it goes well!
I know the reccomender’s form is also kind of intensive, but I am not sure about the nominator form.

Hey guys, good luck in the scholarship!

What do you guys think of my chances?

4.85 weighted GPA (top 10 rank out of 500 students)
3 AP’s last year, 5 this year
President of Math Honor Society
A lot of volunteer hours (500+)

@Markiii: I feel good about most… lol. I don’t know about the recommender form, but the nominator form I saw was really short. About two 500 word essays and a quick 100 word prompt about your academic strength and abilities.
@kemba1: I think you will have a really good chance as long as you approach the prompts well.

Dang, I thought the recommender just had to write a short essay. I still feel like my teacher procrastinated on it. I feel like I have 5 solid essays done, but I am extremely worried. I met a few previous Gates Scholars and they seem amazing!

Do you know when they notify us about finalists?

Well that’s great! I’m sure you’ll do we’ll! And @Kemba I think you are a good candidate as long as you show your leadership abilities well.
Have you guys summoned yet?

I just finished up the essays. Gonna send it in tmrw!

Sent mine in today! So nervous though.

Yeah, i submitted mine yesterday! Now we get to sit back and BE ANXIOUS for the next couple months YAY us! (Not lol).
Do you guys feel confident about your essays?
What did you guys write about? or what was your favorite thing to write about ? :)

I think I might be in a strange position. I submitted my app like a couple hours ago but then I decided to update it.

I’m not sure if I should resubmit or if I can even resubmit or if just automatically updates it without me resubmitting it…
ahh the woes of procrastination

What did you do wrong? If its a small mistake than don’t beat yourself over it, it’ll be okay :)

Ughhh hate having to worry about getting these scholarships, makes it harder to choose where I want to go. A lot of my teachers were nice enough to look over my essays. I’m not sure if they are lengthy or detailed enough though. My favorite essays were #3, #5 and #7. I think it automatically updates or just to be sure, go to the summary page and see if the left hand corner has a submit option. Where are you guys thinking about going?

Ahh… the scary waiting period.

I feel okay about my essays. I don’t have extraordinary/outstanding accomplishments like being a president of a club or changing someone’s life and whatnot, but I feel that some of the points in my essays make up for that. I added a lot of my own philosophy, insights about life, and quotes I go by. I hope that makes up for it too.

I totally agree! I feel like these scholarships are my life-line haha. I really liked the “goals essay” even though that was the one i had the hardest time writing. There are people having trouble submitting their application, I hope it works out for them!

I feel the same! I don’t have any extraordinary experiences.
& yes I believe as long as you have very good points in your essays, than that would totally make up for it!

I have no idea where I wanna go for college. Most likely St. Catherine or Augsburg College, but my final decision will depend on my financial aid, and also whether I get the Gates.
How about you guys??

:P I plan on going to my state university, University of Iowa. It’s about an hour drive from my home. I’m a first generation student, so I really want to be close to my family, and my family wants me to be close to them.

same here, especially for the last essay. I haven’t gone through extraordinary obstacles, so I’m a little worried about that one. Okay, good! I was worried that they would take less consideration since I am planning on going to my state school, UGA, instead of a private school. Same with me, my mom wants me to live at home…but that’s not going to happen.

Haha! Same for me, my family wants me to live at home or close to home. But if I get a full ride than that’s not happening! Yay for first generation students! :P
