Gateway Opinions

Gateway has atrocious reviews, does anyone on here have personal experiences from living at Gateway that they would share with me? I like it because it’s close to campus, but I have yet to see more than a handful of great reviews for Gateway. If you have any other off campus housing that you recommend you can put it here too.

Mine had great couple years at Gateway - reviews tend to be written by people that only have negative things to say. People with good experiences don’t take the time to write reviews. For mine it was easy, safe, had a pool, fitness center, packages got delivered (rather than stolen), mail was reliable, they fixed things fast, had great AC. We had also read negative reviews before, but for mine it was great. Only complaint by my students was it does feel like dorm living a bit (still full apartment though) being a massive student complex (versus a house), but still way less rules than a dorm and a lot more perks. No muss no fuss, all the furniture is supplied, easy breezy. Food is right there. I have had three there living at USC the last 8 years in all kinds of housing - Gateway, a giant townhome, smaller apartment complex and houses. We never had an issue with Gateway. It can be pricey, but at least it is by the bed, so if your room mate runs, you aren’t stuck with all the rent like other places. They had the most awesome view of downtown LA from the 7th floor (just a few face downtown though).

Just looked st Gateway yesterday. Spoke with some who live there. It is not as “high end” as the Lorenzo or West 27. It is however really close to Campus, seemed really clean, had an ok gym( but nothing like Lorenzo), and had study rooms on each floor. I am thinking that I dont want to take a shuttle to Campus, so Gateway may be the best bet. For me location is better than amazing amenities, The residents I spoke with liked it. They have an $800 incentive now, so it comes out a little cheaper then what is listed on web site.

The proximity to campus is worth a lot.

Our D was happy there with her friends. They all lived there one year, their 3rd year at USC. There are a lot of fairly reasonable food places near Gateway, as well as a CVS.

They had no complaints, except they did feel it was a bit overpriced and other students who signed up later got better incentives to sign than they did. (Because it was so expensive, they had 4 people in a 2 bedroom unit. The following year, they moved to a 2 people in a 2 bedroom unit elsewhere instead for a lower rent.)
