Gateway print preview problem -- help!

Hi everyone!

I’m new to this particular forum, but my D is applying to an arts boarding school and unfortunately we need some help.

We thought we had finished her application today (one day ahead of the deadline, lol), but when we went to print preview, on the parent/guardian statement section, for 3 of our four “mini-essays”, our answers are being cut off…despite the fact that all of our answers are one-third to one-half the maximum allowed length.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? What did you do? Of course because the deadline is tomorrow, we have no hope of calling the school and getting help. We put in a question to the Gateway help desk, but aren’t optimistic…their FAQ simply says that if the print preview cuts off your answer, you’ll need to shorten it. But this doesn’t seem right or fair, given that they state on the application that you are allowed 2000 characters, for example, and you’re getting cut off even though you’ve only used 755!

My D also applied to another arts school that didn’t use Gateway but had similar character limits, and it worked just fine.

Thoughts? Advice? Any and all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Personally, whether it is right or fair, I think I would just shorten them. If your application is due tomorrow then I wouldn’t want to risk missing the deadline.

Thanks for your response @futurereject37. That’s exactly what we ended up doing for all of the parent answers that were being cut off (my D’s answers were plenty short, which I had initially fussed at her about, but they fit exactly with no problem, lol).

However, for the “additional information” section, for which you supposedly had 6,000 characters, they were cutting her response off after only 3 sentences. :frowning: The Help Desk actually did respond to us and admitted that it was a glitch…they suggested that we submit the app is-is, email the school to let them know what happened, and attach a PDF of the full version of her “additional information” to the email. They also said they’d log the error and actually forward their finding of the glitch to the school, which I don’t necessarily believe, but I would be happy if it actually happened.

Thanks again for your response. We’ll just keep our fingers crossed that it will all work out ok.

That’s good that you got it all figured out! I hope everything works out, and good luck to your daughter!
