The "Gator" Bowl may want to rename themselves to the Seminole Bowl...
[quote]
"It’s going to be crowded," Catlett, the Jacksonville, Fla., bowl’s president, said of the West Virginia-Florida State matchup on Jan. 1.

That’s a good thing. The bad, Catlett said, "is the disappointment that we just could not take care of the demands of the two universities at the box office. We just ran out of tickets. I’ve never seen anything like it."...
~~~
"The record crowd for the stadium was for Florida State-Alabama (a September 2007 regular season game that drew 85,412)," Catlett said. "I believe we’ll beat that. We’re working with the stadium people right now to figure it all out."
Catlett said that in his 17 years with the Gator, "the only other time we brought out the bleachers was for the Maryland-West Virginia game (Jan. 1, 2004). That one sold out in about 10 days. This one sold out in hours."
I wouldn’t be surprised, considering it’s Bowden’s last game, ironic that his last game is the ‘Gator’ bowl against WVU (former team he coached), better pray the Seminoles do not send him out on his first losing season in a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time, possibly tarnishing an amazing legacy.
UF fans are coming off a devastating loss, not to mention the bowl is viewed as a consolation bowl essentially, and is in N.O. and not in Florida unlike the Gator bowl, with the economy the way it is, watching it on T.V. is much more appealing. I am not worried about a great gator turnout, sold out home games since '79, it was unfortunate to see FSU fans abandon their team at Bowden and Andrew’s last home game on Senior day.
I Wish FSU the best of luck in this bowl game, as I want all Florida schools to represent this state well and whoop their opponents butts silly, but I have a feeling WVU’s offense is going to tear through FSU’s anemic defense like wet tissue paper.
The Gator Bowl is a super matchup. FSU fans, team, and Coach Bowden will be superjacked for Bowden’s last game and will prevail over West Virginia.
It is kind of funny how USF, which beat both FSU and WVU this season, will end up in the International Bowl in Toronto after losing so many games toward end of their season. Only truly diehard USF fans will travel to Toronto for the game, though it is a nice trip for the guys on the team. Passports are needed! I hope when they get up there they don’t find out they have to play “soccer” football.
The Gators will have their hands full with Cincy in the Sugar Bowl, Cincy will win. Cincy crunched USF this year, USF plays UF next year in Gainesville. UF will sell all their tickets for Sugar Bowl. New Orleans police are loading up on extra batteries for their taser guns to greet unruly Gators in the French Quarter knowing how much Gators love that taser tingle down their backs.
[sarcasm]sunnyflorida, yeah you’re right… we are fair weather fans. That’s why we’ve sold out every home game since the late 70s – well before UF was any good. FSU on the hand has very loyal fans as evidenced by the amazing record-setting attendance records during the down times the past few years. There was a rumor that FSU season tickets sold out before they even went on sale this year. Any truth to that???[/sarcasm]
Yeah kinda sad but his health and family come first. He provided a lot during a 5 years he was here: 1 Heisman player, 2 SEC championship, and 2 National Championships. Can’t ask for more than that! Thank you Meyer!
I was joking with my friends and told them that Bowden was available. hahahaha. I think Bowden is bitter enough about his FSU deal to come to UF.
Well, ok then. He can be bitter all the way to the bank. Time for him to move on. Even as an FSU alumnus I am very much over the Bowden era and think he should be too. Note that I have never received millions from FSU and the FSU Boosters Assn but still think it’s time for a change.
On the Urban Meyer story it seems recruits were weakening and now UF says Meyer is merely taking a “leave of absence”.
Yeah, sure…until the recruits are signed then he goes out again for good.
