^^^^^Oh really, when did Florida hire Nick Saban!! haha

sorry but without urban’s not-so-closet bf Tebow, Gators aren’t going anywhere any time soon. looks like the Gator bandwagon is about to get a lot lighter in years to come…

Urban was great, for a couple years. Now the stress is getting to him. And he is only 45.

You have to admit, that year in and year out, Bobby Bowden hung in there. He didn’t flake out when the team did not have a great few years. Sure, he is 80 and past his prime now, but Urban burnt the candle at both ends, and to what extent can he continue to be successful? And how will he handle himself when the team is not filled with stellar talent? Can he continue to coach with a mediocre team? One of the signs of a great and lasting coach is how he handles himself, his team, and the criticism when the pendulum swings back. And it is going to swing back. Lots of coaches can come in to what Meyer came into and be successful. What he does when the crest is over… we may now never know. The next few months and years will tell the story. His story is far from over. And it is not the past 5 years but the next 20 that will tell us about him as a coach and as a man.

Meyer also does not have his staff with him any longer…they were promoted out. He will be starting over, without the help he had before.

This will be interesting. The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. It may be impossible nowadays to duplicate Bobby Bowden’s “dynasty” program.

Good post, sunny. It’s hard not to succeed when you come into a program of immense talent (courtesy of none other than Zook) and perhaps the greatest college QB of the last 10 years. I’d love to see what Urban does now that Tim is out and that their entire offensive scheme these past three years was based on that one guy.

That was such a good game. I’m glad I watched it.

Meyer is a proven winner that has done exceptionally well no matter where he’s head coached at. Your prognostication is nothing more than sour grapes. I guess I’d be bitter as well if I was a Nole. ;)

Apparently Meyer has always stressed himself out with his job no matter were he was coaching at. He’s been having this issue before he even came to Florida. The guy is a workaholic with a side of perfectionism. He just needs to learn how to balance life a little better. With a personality like his, he’s definitely going to feel the pressure working at a school that is tops in the country. We already know what kind of coach and man he is: class all the way around. He’ll be fine. Gators are lucky to have him.

Bobby Bowden has just been a figurehead on the team the past handful of years. He basically just stands there on the sideline to just “look pretty”. When was the last time you heard the guy give a coherent press conference? I’m not gonna knock the guy for being old… but my point is, he’s been coasting stress-free.

It will be interesting but there really isn’t any examples that show that Meyer has failed. Unfortunately when you have a very highly successful program, you will experience attrition – it comes with the territory.

Any program that would have been lucky enough to have Tebow would have used him the same way. The great thing about Meyer is that he molds his offense based on the talent he’s got on the field. Next year we will have Brantley, a gun-slinger, behind center and I guarantee you that Meyer will be calling more pass plays to rip holes in the noles (hey, that kinda rhymes! ;)).

C’mon do you really think Urban - or any HC for that matter - is going to susain the Gator’s current success without Tebow, the entire 2009 defense sans a few returning seniors, and the recruits who are jumping ship to FSU and the U if they haven’t already? Not to mention that with Tebow gone they’ll have to completely revamp their entire offensive scheme since the offense pretty much went through him first and foremost.

Regardless, I think the Gators are still going to be fairly decent this upcoming season. There just won’t be the total dominance they’ve held over the last four years or so. With FSU and Da U on the way up again, these next few years of FL football are gonna be fun to watch.

What kinda of grapes are you eating? You should have let them ripen a bit longer!
As long as Urban keeps coaching at UF, the Gators will be concidered one of the best year in and year out. Like I said before, Meyer’s greatest strength is molding his team to the players he has on the field. When Tebow is gone, we’re going to see a different type of offense to make Brantley successful.

High school players jump ship from one team to another all the time before they sign the LOI. You lose one recruit, you gain another.

well right, that is urban’s style, molding the offense around instrumental players and top talent. he’s excellent at maximizing the roster, no doubt. problem is that brantley doesn’t have nearly impact tebow has and probably never will. and when you compound that with losing a good part of your defense to the draft (which frankly deserves MUCH more credit for their success than Tebow) it’s going to hurt any way you look at it.

but anyways, there are really no sour grapes on this end. i really don’t know where you’re getting that from. at the end of the day, i’m just glad that finally tebow is gone and that FSU is finally making strides to become a respectable program again. as i said earlier, these next 2-3 years of FL football are going to be fun as heck to watch now that FSU and Da U are back and that Florida’s in-state dominance will likely deteriorate a good amount for the immediate future.

You do realize that college football players only have 4 years of eligibility right? Players graduate and leave early while new players come in. UF’s 2006 defense (mostly of Zook players) was different than the 2008 defense (most Meyer players) and obviously both won National Championships. We don’t have to go through the roster do we? Yeah its going to be sad to see Spikes graduate or Haden leave early, but next year other players will step up to fill the void… just like Spikes stepped up to replace Everett or Haden replacing Lewis. I bet you also thought when the 2006 players left UF, that we were going to be “hurt any way you look at it”? hahaha These players leaving after this year will be replaces by other good players… like it does every time with good teams.

^^^^

Here’s a history lesson for you. Remember Spurrier’s Gators, the great Hurricane teams, the great Seminole teams, and more recently the great USC teams. NOTHING last forever!

You give new meaning to the word delusioNole if you think Meyer and the Gators won’t have continued success. Lol

rangerrick,

Did you watch the Under Armour game today??? You’re right, all those recruits are just jumping ship. UF football is over hahaha:

All the UF journalism grads in Florida will certainly do their part to ensure continued success.

However, Urban Meyer seems to have front-loaded a fine set of excuses if he fails to maintain standards.

You mean the Gator grads are behind all the rankings of all the major recruiting outlets, the performance of the players, tv commentators, refs, the award judges of the Armor All game? Wow, Gator Nation truly is everywhere!
Go Gators! :D
