Gator design and construction @ Santa Fe

I’m very confused on this program as the website does not give many specifics. If anyone knows about this program I do have a few questions (I’ve been accepted into the architecture major at gdcsf).

  1. When do classes start (will it be in fall or summer)?
  2. I feel pretty confident in architecture but I’m still worried as I’ve heard you can’t change your major. I understand you can’t change your major at Santa Fe but when I transfer to UF would I be able to then change my major?
  3. I’m in the full ib diploma program and will most likely have more than 31 credits (probably around 45) so would I only be there for a semester?

Thank you in advance!!

  1. I have seen students start in both the summer and the fall
  2. If you change your major at Santa Fe then you would stay there and be applying to UF like any other transfer student. It is is technically possible to change your major once you are fully at UF (after your AA degree) but it would be into a similar program like Sustainability and the Build Environment or something with very similar requirements.
  3. The FL statute maximum amount of credit you can earn for IB is 30 hours so that is all the credit you can count towards your degree unless you also have dual enrollment that doesn't overlap.

My son was admitted to this program for Building Construction. There is a very active Facebook page, ‘Gator Engineering (And Design/Construction) at Santa Fe Parents c/o 2024’, for those admitted to this and the Gator Engineering program. Lots of good information there as well as people who may be able to answer your questions.
