Gators Marching Band?

Hello! I'm hoping to get into the University of Florida for fall 2012, and I was interested in joining the Gators marching band! :) So I wanted to ask people that are in it, or know about it. How difficult is it to get into? And, I know it shouldn't matter, but are people in the band considered "losers"? I would join either way, but I figure I should prepare myself mentally for bullying, lol. Also, any other information would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

I am not in the Gator Marching Band, but I did do marching band in high school. I am not too certain on how difficult it is to get in. If you did marching band in high school, I would think you should be fine. I have never heard anyone make fun of or bully anyone in the band. In fact, I have heard several people say that marching band people are lucky since they get free tickets to the games and get to travel to away games as well. If I wasn’t Pre-Med, I definitely would have done marching band in college. I just didn’t think I would have time to do both. If you do go to UF and join the band, I’m sure it will be a great experience and you will meet many friends.

Oh dear, lol. I haven’t done marching band in high school, and I’m planning on doing Pre-Med at UF. How difficult is Pre-Med?

The Pre-Med track is pretty difficult. A lot of the classes you will be taking freshman year are the “weed-out” classes where they try to get rid of the students who are not willing to work hard enough to be successful. A lot of the people who go into the pre-med track are students who are used to getting straight A’s without even studying. Then they get to UF and realize you need to study a lot if you want to do well. Some are not willing to do this and therefore are weeded out. I am a senior now and I thought freshman and sophomore years were the most difficult. Doing marching band and being pre-med would definitely be a challenge because both have significant time commitments. I don’t think I would have done too well in my classes if I had done marching band, but I’m sure there have been people who have successfully done marching band and pre-med. Maybe you could see how freshman year goes and then try to join marching band your sophomore year if you think you could balance both.

Don’t know your scheduling etc. But Gator Band members are “winners” never losers. Its an awesome club to join!

Haha, I’m in IB, so I’ll be skipping freshman year, and probably sophemore year. I know that I have to study (which is what I should be doing now). I’m sure I could handle the workload. I think I’m going to go for it, even though I probably won’t get in. So excited! February is too far away. :(

Yay go band! I wanna be in the band if I get in next year. But I have a question about Pre-Med. I thought it was just a track, and not a major? And I thought bio and chem majors fulfil the prerequisites for med school?

IAmAwesome74: You are correct. Pre-Med is not a major. It is just a track. I am actually a Nutritional Sciences major. As long as you take the pre-requisites required for admissions into medical school, you can major in whatever you are interested in.
