I won't force myself to believe in something I don't believe in, but until we have a serious talk and until I feel that she truly understands my situation, I will resort to this temporary solution. It's easier for the both of us.

I think I've developed a "gay radar." It seems that I can feel which students are gay based how how to act, speak, walk, and dress.

hey, good for you! I've had one ever since 1st grade, though back then, I didn't realize that I had it. I was best friends with someone who came out in high school. I'm curious to know if this "gaydar" can be explained by science.

I don't have a gaydar :(.

I have an iwishtheyweregaydar, though ;).

from what ive been told usually schools in metro areas have larger gay populations such as BU, NYU, american, USF, etc...

It's coming out week at my school.

Ofcourse, you are easily going to find LGBT friendly schools in all the major cities (NY, LA, CHI, DC, SF, etc..) But there are some really gay friendly schools in random places too.... I go to UW-Madison, and off first hand I can tell you this school and town is extremely gay friendly and aware.

How does one get gaydar?

It comes as as a shock that you, goyoungha, who is going to NYU, hasn't already acquired one. ^_^

Haha, yes I understand how vulnerable I am. Hence my desperate appeal.

Experience, young padawan :)
Let me just say that mine was non-existent as a freshman, but now as a super-senior (5th year).... ;)

I'm a high school senior in san francisco, so any advice for a prospective gay student? From what I've read on this thread, college is extremely open. Do gay college students actually throw parties? lol, i'm thinking of UC schools, but I have a slim chance of getting into Berkeley.

Haha, so eventually I should get it. Hopefully.

I don't know about CA schools, but the gay college students at NYU are very open about their tendencies, not to mention the fact that they have no problem in joining parties full of heterosexuals.

Here at Madison, the gays are very involved, hahve their own parties, go to straight parties, etc, and no one says anything bad. It's very accepting.

I've noticed a resurgence of queer students on this forum, so I'm reviving this thread hoping that more of them would post.

I dont know if I have Gay-dar. The people in my town are stero-typed. Half the jocks fool around, and the rest are flaming or CLEARLY in the closet, it's quite funny actually.

I guess ive just never needed it...

As for school: Bates College, the one im praying to get into that is in Maine, has a REALLY active gay community and is VERY VERY open. Tons of gay faculty too. Everyone is open, and even if they dont agree with it (Majorly in the minority) they dont disrespect people. :) It's good!

Best wishes,
~Matthew

How about Washington University in St. Louis?

I know that san francisco has a very large gay community.

My purpose in asking for the geographic region is to determine if there are differences that queer folks in different parts of the country have. I'm mainly interested in hearing about these experiences.

I have a question to the gay guys: how do you meet other gay guys at your school? I get to know a lot of gay people in a professional setting because of the nature of my club activities, but as a person with a leadership role, I think it would be unprofessional of me to go after the members.
