gay community at carleton

is there one? a sizeable one?

While I can't answer from personal experience, here are some links that may help you
The Gender and Sexuality Center (<a href="https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/gsc/%5B/url%5D">https://apps.carleton.edu/campus/gsc/</a>) has info on LGBTQA resources. Carleton has worked hard to institutionalize support for LGBT students as an integrated part of its support for all students.
There's also a significant alumni support group - Out After Carleton - that has their own on-campus reunion schedule. They also have info on career and grad schools resources.

Thanks bingle! But anybody else with some more info is welcome too, i'm just unsure whether there's a noticeable or large enough gay community so that i can feel comfortable.

The Carleton gay community is moderately-sized. In the recently released campus climate survey, something like 12% of respondents identified as something besides heterosexual or asexual. I knew of more out lesbian/bisexual female students than gay/bisexual male students when I was there, though, so if you're thinking in terms of your possible dating pool as a gay male, it's not too big. The gay men I knew at Carleton complained about how they ended up dating pretty much every other openly gay man at Carleton at some point. (There's always Oles...) In terms of comfort, though, Carleton's Gender and Sexuality Center has events and resources to make sure that students feel connected to the community, such as an annual Rainbow Retreat, Drag Ball, Queer Peers, and the like. You could email some of the GSC student workers and ask if they would be willing to share their experiences with a prospie or put you in touch with other gay Carleton students: Carleton College: Gender and Sexuality Center: Meet the Office

Any other opinions on this?

One of the admissions student bloggers is lesbian https://apps.carleton.edu/admissions/blogs/janesturges/</a> you can read her blog and comment with any questions you have. I know there are a lot of Pride activities going on right now.
