Basically, I am in the closet and I am not prepared to come out because of fear of what my parents would think and that I am in a state of denial. Do you think this is a good essay to write about? I don't want the essay to be a pity fest, but I don't know what to talk about. Ideas anyone?

I would say, no, don’t do that. “In a state of denial” makes it seem like you’re not honest with yourself, and thus, they may not take you seriously.

What defines you? Are you funny? Witty? Adept at a certain subject? See if you can find something like that.

Do you think I should “come out of the closet” in the essay itself?

I think its a wonderful topic for the essay. Good writing pieces (when written about ones self) should give examples of hardships of some sort and how you were able to overcome them ; they should also be a good representation of yourself . I think you should include things like how hard it is/was not being able to show your true self ect. ect .

maybe you can talk about the topic of homosexuality as it pertains to the country/ world as well as your own experiences but only HINT of your own homosexuality and how you feel about it , blah blah blah.
