gay friendly sunys

i was wondering which of these sunys is the most gay friendly-binghamton, stony brook, or geneseo. stony brook would be my safety and binghamton and geneseo would be matches for me. i'm not looking at any other details about the schools, such as rankings, programs, etc. which is the most gay friendly? please do not suggest any other schools to me. i only want to know about these particular ones.

this group may be able to answer any questions you have about binghamton – [Rainbow Pride Union - Home](http://www.binghamtonrpu.com/viewpage.php?page_id=3)

you can check whether the other schools you are looking at have similar organizations that you can contact for more information.

I know that our gay student group and faculty/staff group at Stony Brook are quite large, and quite well-supported.

i am pleased to hear these things, but i was wondering if anyone has any stories or personal experience? it’s one thing to go on a website or ask a committee, but another to know what a person’s actual experiences or overall feelings have been.

As a Gay Alumni of Geneseo I always felt the campus was pretty gay friendly. I am sure that hasn’t changed. Many of us in Residence Life and other student leadership positions were gay.

I thought you might find this helpful…

I’m a student at Stony Brook and the culture is LGBTQ-friendly. The LGBTA is quite active and prominent on campus and we’re currently considering gender-free housing. I have never felt uncomfortable here because most everyone is very open. Those who are ignorant are usually very open to learning about gay culture. Also, Stony Brook is on Long Island which has many gay/lesbian clubs.

Good luck making your choice!

I’m a gay student at Fredonia. This is a very gay-friendly school (especially because of the size of the arts programs here). Most people here are fairly intelligent and friendly.

I’m not a member of the LGBT group but it’s fairly large and well organized from what I can gather.

I am a student at Binghamton and the culture is very gay-friendly. There is an active Rainbow Pride Union on campus, and there is a pretty popular gay bar (Merlin’s) in the downtown area.

Edit: our student union just added a gender-free bathroom this semester, as well.
