Hey guys,

I was just admitted to Emory as an ED II applicant, and could not be more excited! I was just wondering if someone could give me the low down on LGBT life on campus.. Are there a lot of gays/gay couples on campus? How helpful is the LGBT office? If someone could just give me an overview about what gay/lesbian life on campus is, that'd be awesome. I'm not out yet, but am ready to come out during my time at Emory.

Thanks!!

I’m pretty sure Emory is known to be really good at this sort of thing. I’ve had some gay friends and they seem to have been well supported (most were minority, URM and non) by the office and I know a couple of them seemed heavily involved with it. Judging by their satisfaction and the amount of LGBTQ students and staff members (seriously, a HUGE portion of the higher-ups in reslife identify as LGBT apparently), I would say that you’ll be well off coming to Emory. I would be careful with certain Greek organizations however. While I imagine most receive it just fine, it’s possible that some Greeklife members at some frats won’t (there was an incident a couple of years ago I think).; However, overall, this is Emory. You’ll fit in fine. One of my friends was a gay Muslim (When I met such people, all I could say is: "only at a place like Emory can I easily meet such people and “poor thing”. I always wanted to ask how he reconciles that…I am thankful for how essentially easy it is to be straight) and another acquaintance was an ex-communicated Mormon. Again, even they seemed to enjoy it, so I guess you should. In addition, you’ll be in Atlanta, so that’s a plus…

I found the website if you haven’t looked already and want to: Error 404 | Emory University | Atlanta GA;
