gay life at PSU? and others

what's it like being an openly gay male at penn state? ithaca? northeastern?

what other colleges are known to be accepting of homosexuality?

Lots of ones in the Northeast. More liberal ones in general, mostly (NYU, Wesleyan, etc).

Ithaca, as a town, has a huuuuge lesbian population - not as big of a gay population, but it makes for a very accepting town.
I'd look up GSA or some college-equivalent and find out what schools have active ones.

Brandeis is very accepting, and Swarthmore is a very gay-friendly school.

boston university i heard was very gay friendly.

Ithaca College is extremely gay-friendly. As well as the town in general, like previously stated.

Other good options: NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Stanford, Pitzer, and Eugene Lang.

BU is okay, but nothing spectacular. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.

Also look at Suny Purchase and Suny New Paltz.

thanks for the comments :)

anyone have anything to say about psu or northeastern? because it's looking like i might end up going to one of those two.

I don't know about Penn State (I would be inclined to think that it's not necessarily the best place for an openly gay male due to the nature of the school), but Northeastern seems to be a good option – it's more liberal than Penn State, and it's in a cosmopolitan city with a large gay community.

that was my thought about penn state too, but I really have nothing to base it off of.

I did find something useful here: http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/psupride/articles/Hartford%20Courant%2005251992.pdf

On that, hit find and query Penn State. Something quite interesting is there.

Also, there was a recent (2006?) event where a homophobic coach was given a slap-on-the-wrist punishment for something.
