I realize this is going to be different in different colleges, but I'm trying to figure out how much it matters if a colleges has an LGBT student life center. Are they usually a place where LGBT students hang out a lot? or are the more often unused/ rarely used/ or used by few?

It’s kind of hard to answer this question because it is likely different at every school. From my personal experience, having an LGBT student life center is great, but not completely necessary to meet other gay guys/girls. I’ve only been to a couple of the meetings at my school and they’re pretty okay, but it didn’t feel different from my high school GSA; very clique-ish among the lgbt crowd. I kind of stopped going to the meetings, but I get invovled if there are any events around campus. I’ve met many gay students and faculty members just through my classes and other clubs I’ve joined.

Usually, the clubs attracts a certain crowd and it doesn’t really go beyond that…but then again, it could just be my school. I haven’t relied on the LGBT life center at my school, since I don’t run into many problems that involve that, but having one seems like a good thing. It’s always nice to get in touch with other gay students and share experiences. Just my 2 cents. Hope I helped.

Yeah, I think people can only really give really subjective opinions here.

There’s an LGBT campus center at my school, I’ve seen pictures of it (it’s brand new) and it looks super nice. There are lots of study areas, a library, and places for people to just hang out. I think plenty of LGBT students use it. There are also several LGBT clubs around campus and I think they’re pretty solidly active. I’m bisexual, but not really into any of that stuff, so I can’t give more helpful information. I’m hesitant to join LGBT clubs or use the campus center because an ex-girlfriend of mine runs a lot of that stuff and we really don’t get along very well. Maybe a silly, personal reason, but true for me, lol.

I will admit that I don’t know a lot of LGBT students in general (it truly sucks, lol) so I don’t really know what the majority of them do.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t be a great loss if I went to a school that didn’t have one. It seems like it’ll be fine because what I’m hearing is there are many other ways to meet gay people, and not that many people go to them anyways.
