gay life @ USC

just wondering...what is the gay scene like at USC? ive heard it was pretty good?

They have a rainbow floor as a special interest community. One of the frats has a few members that are gay.

The campus is kindof conservative, which may translate to less tolerance.

I haven't met any openly gay people, but then again I'm not exactly on the lookout.

http://www.usc.edu/uscnews/stories/12640.html

i have a gay friend at usc and he loves it there

Yeah, I think it is a good atmosphere for gays - accepted and not alienated. If you are gay, you can be pretty open about your gayness, I think. There is the Rainbow Floor gay community, but I know gay guys who live in the regular dorms too, and they seem happy, I guess. I think most people are pretty tolerant of alternative lifestyles and viewpoints, including sexual orientation. It's California!

The LGBT office is also excellent. I know the president this year, and he is a wonderful guy. While I'm straight, I know several gay and lesbian students, and they all seem to really enjoy the atmosphere of USC. While there will always be intolerance anywhere you go, USC looks on that very poorly, and deals with it well.

bump because i'm curious :)

question::why does everyone always say "bump". i dont get it.

Bump pushes a post to the top of a board, making it more likely that others will read and respond to it. Frankly, it annoys me, but I understand why people do it.

Well, if it's the same person doing it over and over (or the OP)...that's annoying. But I figure if I'm just saying, "here, here, good question" that should be ok ;).

Wait...would this be considered another bump? Haha...well...it was unintentional this time.

okay now that i comprehend the bump process, another question. are usc students, and californians in general more accepting and open to gays? because in the midwest, feelings arent so friendly. i would suspect that out west the feelings would be more liberal....

well i can't speak for LA since i've spent all of 3 days there in my entire life (hopefully it will be much much more by this time next year!)... but since you're also asking about california in general--
i live in northern california, in berkeley (near to san francisco, across the bay) and i have been out since... i was like 14 or so. and obviously bigots exist everywhere, but homophobia is has an extremely small prescence here (judging from my experiences at least).

i can't compare since i've lived here for pretty much my whole life, but i definitely can't complain. california is a great place

USC looks down very much on bias based on anything including sexual orientation and gender identity. The Rainbow Floor is an amazing place, very supportive and focused on issues, but also really fun in general. Most USC students are very accepting, but there are always exceptions.

there are plenty of gay clubs around usc if you're into that

isnt there a frat with gays in it? doubtful that theres a frat specifically designated for gays....?

lamda chi- though I've heard it referred to as "ramda-guy"

That's the one with a few gay members.

bump bump bump

BUMP!!!!!!! more input please!

tigerheat :)

um... i'm pretty sure sc was recently ranked by someone as one of the most lgbt friendly schools in the country. like top five or something

lol yea, the club scene. but there is also a ton of gay things to do on campus, through student orgs, etc. and yeah, usc has been ranked a top lgbt-friendly campus by multiple publications.
