Often that situation and the "Coming out Day"/Pride Day situations occur at the same school. It's a matter of whether the latter group is succeeding at convincing anybody.

I just realized we have no school on April 26th, the National Day of Silence! It's a half-day for underclassmen and juniors (due to testing) but no school for seniors. How could that slip my mind?

Also, has anyone else noticed that this thread hasn't turned into some huge debate? Weird

So, did anyone attend the Gay Games this past July in Chicago?

my school doesnt have a GSA 'cause we're a Catholic school lol. but i support gay marriage, etc. probably because I'm not Christian.

I'm the Vice-President of my school's Gay/Straight Alliance. Our meetings focus more towards LGBT right activism. Earlier this year, we led a panel discussion at a faculty meeting discussing harassment in the classroom, how it is to be 'out' in high school, etc.

We're going to go to a Board of Education meeting with an ACLU lawyer to try to get our school's policy towards LGBT faculty members changed to include protection from discrimination within the workplace as well as with hiring.

I dunno, we also participate in Day of Silence, Transgender Day of Remembrance, No Name Calling Week, and we have guest speakers come in from all kinds of organizations (PFLAG, Ark, GLSEN, ACLU, Magellan, etc.).

A majority of our meetings are discussion-based, but we hardly go off topic. It's becoming more of a social club lately, but our club is primarily based around changing the school environment.

Also, public schools are required to allow Gay/Straight Alliances under the Equal Access Act which states that a school administration is not allowed to discriminate against the sponsorship/creation of a non-curricular club pertaining to sexual orientation, religion, political objectives, etc.

That's how our GSA received school-sponsorship...so it doesn't matter how conservative your school is, they can be sued if they don't let you..or if they decide to protest against an existing club.

I was in the GSA at my school for about 1 day and it sucked. All they did was sit around and complain to each other about how "bad" life is. I've been openly bi for 4 years (most of them are bi as well) and have never been insulted for it at our school (it's VERY liberal). It annoyed me so I left.

But nobody here cares about it. It's just another club to everybody, no more no less.

They did participate in day of silence though.
