Gay @ Texas Universities

I live in Dallas and I'm wanting to go to a university in Texas, preferably in Austin/San Antonio/San Marcos.

From what I hear, UT Austin is pretty accepting of gay students, but what about other universities in the area?

specifically:
Texas State University
St Edward's University
St Mary's University
UT San Antonio
Trinity University

I lived in San Antonio until I was 12, so I know that SA is pretty liberal in general, but I'm not sure about those universities.

Thank you in advance.

St. Edwards is a catholic school so that should put some perspective on it. Trinity is fairly conservative as well. Texas State doesn’t seem to be as accepting as UT but for the most part you shouldn’t run into serious problems.

Thank you UTPG1234 for that.

Also, what about Southwestern U?

I live in Austin, so just thought I’d add something re: St. Edward’s. If you think it’s a good match for you, I’d talk with the student leaders of the GLBT/straight alliance, which has been active on campus for a while. Note, also, that for many, St. Ed’s is a commuter school. Interestingly, it is physically located in the part of Austin that might be considered most liberal, gay-friendly and “hip.”

With all that said, the policies of the church do present “issues.” I found this article confirming my memory of a recent incident.

[St. Edward’s bars gay-rights group from volunteer fair](http://www.statesman.com/news/local/st-edwards-bars-gay-rights-group-from-volunteer-914386.html)

Good luck on your search!

PS-I see you added Southwestern. I don’t know about it’s gay friendly quotient, but I’d be concerned that Georgetown doesn’t offer enough in the way of urban life, and certainly night life, that would appeal to college kids used to the DFW metroplex. It all depends on what you like to do with your free time and for entertainment, though! It’s another nice school that has a lot going for it–again, a visit (overnight) would be wise.

My D attends Trinity. She finds it NOT too conservative, but open and accepting.

OP, you are correct in that SA is a pretty liberal place.
