Gays at UM

I was just wondering? Is there a lot of gays? I'm a gay guy

There are a lot of gay people on campus and in the general area. I think Miami is up there with San Francisco, Key West, and New York in terms of gay population and gay friendliness.

I’m gay myself, and I know quite a few gay people on campus and in the surrounding communities. Miami Beach has a huge gay population, and there are quite a lot of gay-directed restaurants and clubs (most notably Twist and the Palace) to hang out. I’ve never felt discriminated against or disliked because of my sexuality. As a side note, the quidditch team attracts a lot of gay students.

As a gay student, I think Miami is one of the best places you can be. Our only competition in this regard would be NYU, Berkeley, and Stanford.

Wow thanks a lot  I’ll feel so much better!

I know that this club is huge on campus, I always see stuff they are hosting or a part of SpectrUM[/url”>http://www6.miami.edu/studorgs/spectrum/]SpectrUM

That is So cool

I’ll just expand on what rankinr said. There are definitely a lot of gay people on campus and in the area. Miami is kind of known for it. I am bisexual myself and have never felt out of place. There are lots of gay-directed places in the area like rankin said and there are also groups on campus. SpectrUM is the main club on campus for LGBT students and their allies. They do a lot of stuff on campus and they are pretty well-known. There is also a fraternity, which I am a part of, geared towards gay, bisexual, and progressive straight men. So there is really nothing to worry about :)

Thanks you guys :)

Yup, I have a friend who’s gay and another who’s bi and several of my friends are in SpectrUM. I also went to a drag queen contest on campus…It’s a pretty welcoming community.
