My Guidance Counselor left and I’m about to entire my senior year of high school. I’m not really sure what to do with my college applications. Such as for my GC on the applications should I put my old counselor or the new one (which I do not know at all…don’t even know who it is :(). My previous counselor knew me very well. In fact the lady at the Career Center in my school who also knew me fairly well moved to North Carolina earlier in the school year…it seems some of my good recommendations are leaving.
But I guess what my question is, is that I think colleges require that a recommendation comes from your guidance counselor. I have my other guidance counselors phone number and e-mail adress, so can I have her write the recommendation? Or does it HAVE to come from my new one???

mine is leaving too. I asked her for a recommendation and she said she would love to right a rec for me. I think your former GC can write a rec for u since he/she knows u better than ur new one.

It would definately be a good idea to get a recommendation from your old GC since she knows your a lot better. One option you have: Have your old GC write a general letter of recommendation and send it to your new GC. Whenever your new GC has to fill out the forms, she can write a little bit about you from personal experience in your senior year and then also explain the situtation about changing counselors and attach the letter from your old GC. Alternatively, if you don't want to go through your new GC at all, contact the admissions representatives for your state at colleges you are applying to and explain your situtation. I bet they will accept a recommendation from your old GC without any problems.

when i did college visits, I asked the same question cause it happened to me to. The ivies and other top schools i visited said they want it from whoever knows u best, so your old GC's rec would be valid. You might also want your new GC's rec with an explanation of the situation or somethin.

Thanks!!! Those sound like great ideas. I think I will have my old guidance counselor write them.....I don't think I even feel like talking to whoever the new one is. But if I have to...then I have to.
