Has anyone here taken this cluster or has heard anything about it?

I'm not sure if I want to take a cluster, but this one seems interesting. Some of my friends at UCLA say clusters are not worth the trouble and "excess" work and difficulty. I'm trying to outweigh the pros and cons, and I'm still unsure.

Anyone else with suggestions or thoughts? Is it worth taking a cluster (specifically this one)?

Thanks! :D

take it and see if you like it. you can always drop it.

i dropped it the first day. he started talking about the doppler effect like it was the main reason for our existence and we should hail to it. i mean, i just don't have that type of mind. if you're good at math and science, don't hesistate to take it.

Thanks for your suggestions. Any more??? Orientation's coming up pretty soon! :D

Yes, I was wondering about this too. I'm interested in the subject matter but don't have a good grasp on mathematical or physical science concepts (never taken physics or calc). Will this class be too hard for me? The other clusters I'm considering are Biotech and the Enviro one, which might be kind of redundant because I just took AP Enviro, although I really enjoyed it.

Thanks!

I had a love/hate relationship with this class. Overall it's not a really difficult class because it's designed for non-science majors so the material is pretty dumbed down. You will not need a background in Calculus or Physics for this class. I looked at who will be teaching the cluster for this year and only recognize one professor (Moldwin) so I guess they have a new teaching crew. The reading for the cluster was incredibly boring and I know very few people who actually did it. You don't need to do the reading to do well on the midterm and final. Those are pretty much all lecture based. Also since Moldwin is teaching it again this year, he's very easy. All of his test questions are based on big-picture stuff... not specifics (unlike Prof. Friscia). He's also one of the nicest professors at UCLA.

There are easier GE science classes to take to fulfill the science requirement (Atmo 3, Life Sci 15, etc.) but taking a cluster does have its perks: Writing II requirement satisfied, honors credit, priority enrollment, etc. Also I really liked my seminar for the spring quarter. I definitely recommend Josh's Biology in Springfield seminar.
