What's The Least Challenging Ge Cluster For Ucla Freshman?

prob perf arts

def. not modern thought xD

i have a better solution..DON'T sign up for those damn ge clusters..they're hell, i tell ya!

^ Agreed. It pretty much locks you in.

agreed. don't take the freshmen clusters.

here is a breakdown...

things you get by taking a cluster:

3 GE class requirements

If GE 70 (Evolution of the Cosmos), satisfies the Lab/Demo requirement

Satisfy the Writing II requirement

Things you give up by takin the cluster:

one entire 5 unit class per quarter

tons of useless reading...hate it hate it

if ur in the science clusters, labs every frickin week

a 5-7 page, fully annotated, APA style research every quarter

In conclusion:

in the long run, if ur a non-science major, then taking the science cluster definitely saves you time.

^ Oh and don't forget the weekly reading assignments. :[

same question as OP

so if i'm a science major, it'll be kinda redundant to take a science cluster like the cosmos one?

can anyone who has taken or taking a cluster comment on the difficulty the Global Environment, Sex/Gendered Society, and Los Angeles clusters and if they are ultimately worthwhile in fulfilling their GE's and Writing II requirement???

i hated my cluster. do not take interracial dynamics. I dropped it after first quarter. I got an A but it took so much effort. the course reader was frickin' expensive and HUGE. one EVERY quarter. the reading was inane. three papers a quarter. 3/4 of the professors sucked.

need I say more?

How is the Evolution of the Cosmos and Life cluster? I'm really interested in taking it and wanted to know if it's worth it.

I'm taking it right now and it's a lot of work. Besides lectures every week, expect a lab and a reading assignment. There is also a research paper each quarter. The material, however, is very interesting.

the global environment cluster isn't bad. i'm in it right now, and compared to the other clusters, we don't have nearly as much reading. 3 relatively easy writing assignments fall quarter, one 5-7 page research paper winter quarter. it's still more work than taking some other GE class, but as GE clusters go, i'd say it's probably one of the easier ones.

Yes, it would be redundant to take a science cluster as a science major. For one thing, you'll have satisfied your science GEs with your lower-division science courses.

So would you recommend taking it, yahooo?

Are the Fiat Lux seminars better?

Yeah, I second that question.

What exactly are Fiat Lux seminars? I couldn't really gleam much information from the brochure description.

Also, would anyone recommend cluster or Fiat Lux for possible engineering majors?

single unit seminars with P/NP for grading

primarily for freshmen to "develop their interest in other fields"

useless unless you got to meet the unit requirement, like im takin one for spring to meet the 42.

i wouldn't say fiat luxes are useless... if one or two sound interesting, and they work with your schedule, go for it! they're like mini-classes that totally depart from your regular studies. think of them like try-it badges.
