Anyone can recommend good CAT I, II, III, V courses please. Going over some of the old threads, but most profs are different now. Thanks.

I’m in Types and Stereotypes of the American West in Literature and Film (Cat V, ARLT 100) with Shoop right now, it’s a good class, but there’s a different professor next semester, so I can’t speak to that.

^ Are the above 2 to be registered together? Like the Cat 6 and Writ 140.

no, Cat V is Arts and Letters. Freshman take ARLT 100, and sophomores can take ARLT 100 or 101, I think. Every Cat V is either ARLT 100 or 101, but there are a bunch of different classes. It’s way more confusing than it should be, I don’t know why they do that. My roommate is in a Holocaust class (btw, I don’t think the people in the Holocaust classes particularly like them) that is ARLT 100, and I am in the Western class, which is also ARLT 100, even though they’re really different and we’re not in the same class.

What would you recommend freshman take in Spring? Right now the GE + writ 140 that son has is not something he is really loving, I am sure he is ready for a breather next semester.

Cant blame him he is not a humanities kinda guy, he loves the CS and the EE intro classes. Hoping he will get some good classes in CS and EE again.

Can he take Arlt 101g as a freshman (with Soph status)?

I doubt it… but what’s the matter with ARLT 100? There are tons of options for classes, there’s a huge variety, and if he has sophomore status, he’s probably already registered (my permit to register is in 20 minutes, and I came in with 28 credits, just 4 shy of sophomore status, and I’ll have 18 more after this semester). I don’t know anything about 101, but 100 has TONS of options.

He was able to register for 101g. He said 100g were all closed? They have red signs next to them. He was able to register today.

Good to hear pixeljig! Glad to hear that registration seemed to go more smoothly for him this time.

yeah, I don’t know what’s up with things being closed… I couldn’t get into the Cat VI that I wanted, even though it definitely wasn’t full. Weirdddd.

umm wisdom…u do know they hold onto spots and slowly release batches at a time…

yeah, but I don’t think they released any for my time slot, cause I’m pretty sure it was 30/100 at 4 and 30/100 at 4:32, and closed at both times. But I had no problem registering for the other one at 4:35-7 by the time I got it all in order.
