I'm going to be a Bio Major and I was wondering when do students usually take GE courses?

My current schedule is:
Bio 2A
Bio 93
Chem 1A
Writing 39B
(13 units)

I'm thinking about whether I should add a GE course to this or not, because I was planning to take Math 2A in the Spring. I constantly hear people say that 12 units is good to start off with, and I hear some that say it is bad.

That’s an okay schedule to start out with in the fall. People take GE courses whenever there is room in their schedule or when they feel that it’s okay to add another class because they feel they can handle it.

Math 2A in the spring? Does that mean you’re going to take math 2b in summer? and finish the rest of your math with upper div. bio/chem classes?

I think you should add a GE or math to your load, b/c I hear from many that students tend to slack off because of a lack of classes/work. But I don’t know, I’m in the same situation as you, except I signed up for math 2A, so 17 units.

Freshman year is the time to adjust from high school. Bio and chem are tough classes. I’ve heard writing 39b is the toughest 39 series since its analytical writing. 39c is basically research. just stick to that schedule, you might need the time for writing tutor, science tutor, enroll something at the ARC, have fun with friends, etc. I can tell bio, chem, and 39b is already a workload. You are already started your GE technically. Just after your fall quarter, you’ll find time for your GE classes right after you find adjustment to your study habits and all.

Hmm, so are some of you implying that Bio 93 and Chem 1A are more rigorous than future science courses? So is it better to take Math 2A/GE at another time?
