@Southern5062 and @centurion71 - if you don’t mind, what are your stats? My son is applying for the GE-Reagan this year, so I am curious. Thanks
@whatisfafsa - My stats as a 2018 GE-Reagan Scholar were as follows: Academic: SAT 1370, GPA 3.8 Unweighted, Rigorous curriculum in a Classical Christian school. Leadership / School / Community: 2018 Youth Lt. Governor of Virginia through Model General Assembly; Received scholarship to pursue pre-college Classical Studies in Rome with Brown University during summer before Senior year; Active in school theatre, including acting, writing, directing (currently a Presidential Scholar in Theatre at Wake Forest)… Member of Praise Band both at school and at church (vocals and percussion); Received Harry F. Byrd, Jr Leadership Award from Virginia Supreme Court (they interview and select 11 seniors from across the state each year, out of 600 nominees); Student Chairman of Project Faith, the largest annual community service project in our region involving 600 volunteers & 100 businesses; Studied Theology for two summers at Roanoke College through Theology for Teens program. President of several school clubs; Self-employed in summers doing general labor. Family hardships include divorced parents, each that have faced significant health challenges (father is fully disabled & in a wheelchair.) Being named a GE-Reagan Scholar was beyond my highest hopes. Attending the Scholars Retreat at the Reagan Library and meeting the other scholars was incredible! The 2018 Scholars are each profiled on the GE-Reagan website if you want to get to know the other winners better. Wishing your son the best in his pursuit of this!
Thanks @Southern5062 - very impressive work you have done, best wishes for your future plans!
Does anyone know what’s considered “financial need?” Is it worth applying for if income is over $100K?
I’m a little confused; was this thread for last year (2018) or this year (2019)? I just submitted my application.
@redcloud17 The thread started last year with the 2018 scholarship competition (should not have been titled “2018-2019” but the person that started it used that title…) so most posts are from the 2018 competition. But a few comments were added this year. I didn’t see a new (separate) discussion thread started for this year’s competition… just the add-on comments to this thread from last year. Good luck!
