I've gone through various review.com profiles for colleges and universities and since I have a GED I compulsively look at their Statistics-Admissions page to see if I'm rejected by default. While I haven't come across one that says 'no' outright, the 'not reported' is also quite vexing.

I'm looking for transfer options for next fall. I say "transfer" very sarcastically because I'd be coming from a community college in the middle of nowhere and am unconcerned with my credits transferring, even though I'll have about 34 by next fall. It's not a matter of academic indifference, more of an acceptance that I'm not great material.

I'm 18. I dropped out of school when I was 14 because I was agoraphobic, depressed, twitchy (not a selling point that I want to use, I assure you). I was formerly an very promising student. I did nothing but read for three years. Last summer I got a GED because I needed to enroll at the community college and get back into school. This will be my second year in this depressing place and I'm manically searching for a 4-year college that will take me. I've taken core classes (though a few of my math ones are somewhat remedial) and my GPA should be up after a rather bad Chemistry 101 grade last fall, by the end of this year hopefully around 3.5. I'm also taking the SAT this October.

The point is, I'm dedicated and I have a real desire to learn, will having a GED always ruin my chances automatically? My dream school is the University of Chicago but I wouldn't mind/would also enjoy the University of Minnesota.
Is there some special entry process for the eccentric academically maligned?
