GED question

Hello,

I have just started the 12th grade as a home-schooled student and am currently looking into colleges.

I have been home-schooled for my entire life and have take a multitude of tests, including the SAT and the SAT Subject tests.

I noticed that for one of my top choices, Carnegie Mellon University, they require the GED along with the normal application and essay.

I am extremely worried about taking the GED because it's just another way to say you didn't get an education and I did. To be precise, I received a 720 on Math 1 & 2 SAT II and a combined score of 2100 on the SAT and I plan to take the ACT this fall. I am taking AP Calc BC and AP Stat, along with several other sciences and english programs.

Can someone please help me?

I would like to major in Data Science/Mining, and Carnegie Mellon has the program I would like to pursue.

Thank You,

Ian Rios

I have actually emailed Carnegie Mellon about this and they have clarified that they do not require the GED.

The section for home-schoolers on their website states:
“You must also provide proof that you’ll have met, by the end of May of the year of graduation, all requirements for an official high school diploma and submit an official final transcript, a GED OR a certificate of completion from your local school district or state board of education by the end of July of the year of matriculation.”

So long as you provide them with an official-looking transcript (see other threads on CC for details on how to do this) you will not need to take the GED.

Thank you very much!

Their wording was confusing. but I understand now!
