Geek Colleges

Hey. I was wondering if you guys could recommend good colleges for a proud geek. For example, I am looking for the type of college where students code spontaneous solutions to things, make DIY projects just for fun, and learn for the sake of learning. I have been looking for colleges with the previously mentioned characteristics and have gotten a few down. However, I was wondering what kind of geek colleges, if any, you guys would recommend for someone with the stats as shown:

I am a Sophomore
GPA: 4.33 weighted, 3.8 unweighted
(The reason I put the GPA is to give you guys a rough estimate of what colleges for you guys to recommend given my stats.)

Thanks in advance :D

CalTech comes to mind

How do you have a .5 weighting as a 10th grader? Methinks you use a lame system.

A+ = 5.33
A = 5.00
A- = 4.67
B+ = 4.33
B = 4.00
B- = 3.67

and so on (that is the weighted gpa scale for honors/ap classes)

You probably would’ve been better off posting this in the College Search forum.

Georgia Tech, Rose Hulman, Harvey Mudd, and Franklin Olin come to mind immediately.

I had the opportunity to visit Olin last summer. It was awesome, I really liked that students could cross register (somewhat) at Babson for business classes.

MIT?

My super nerdy friend goes there.

Meknows you have a lame system.

Most schools around my area (Northern NJ) use this system, so I wouldn’t know if it were bad or not. What kind of system do you use in LA? I’m interested in knowing how other schools give out credit.

A = 5
B = 4
C = 3
D = 1
F = 0

For AP only

Yeah, same here.

Hm MIT would be awesome but its a long shot.

I wonder if I will have another snow day tomorrow. I had one today and its snowing still.

fuzzleshnops you go to emory right? how do you like it there?

I love Emory! ^_^

I couldn’t imagine myself any place else.

what are the people there like?

I am also thinking about considering Carnegie Mellon.

Has anybody had any experience with CMU?

There are a lot of Asians here. But there are pretty much every type of person here. There are the spoiled SOB JAPs, the quiet girls, the stoners, the ******s, the nice guys, the overall friendly people, etc.

Though, there aren’t that many JAPs and ******s. A lot of people here are pretty cool.

CMU is a selective college. its known to accept the ivy rejects. lawls.

Berkeley :smiley:
CMU Maybe?
or Caltech (if you’re looking to become suicidal)
and Cornell

Why would anyone go to Caltech when they could go to MIT :P

what about Case Western in Ohio? i have heard it is nerdy, and my friend that wanted to go there is pretty nerdy. also University of Chicago. great school, and it seems like it would be pretty nerdy. i know a guy that went there and he is pretty nerdy.
