So it turns out I received an A in Chemistry this semester, but a C- (!) in Chem Lab. I knew things were not going so well...but it's the final that killed me, I guess. I was always good at chemistry, and always hated lab...in all of my science classes in high school.

Now, this is only Chem I. I am going to take Chem II next year (it's a weird option that NYU has, I don't feel like explaining it, and it doesn't really matter :)).

Should I retake the class? Or will doing significantly better in all labs from here on make up for it? Or should I hang up my goggles and pick another career path?

What also played a role in my poor grade is missing 2 labs, but I had a great excuse for one that wasn't counted (excuses...that's a new low for me, I promise..). However, they ran out of lab manuals before the first lab and I had to miss it. Should I go talk to the lab instructor?

No; partly but not completely; not necessary; yes, I would.

I’m a bit scatterbrained because I’m supposed to be studying shoulder anatomy now, but…

You’re going to have to retake the lab class if you want to go to medical school - lab is a requirement and requirements don’t count if you don’t get a C or better grade.

It’s a little late to be complaining about this. You should have talked to the lab instructor the first day if you didn’t have all the stuff you needed!

Also, as a graduate of NYU… I don’t understand your excuses about absences. I remember them being very upfront about what the absence policy was, but things could have changed. Did you not understand what the policy was or did you miss hearing about it because you missed the first lab? When perfect attendance is basically a requirement to do well in the course, it doesn’t surprise me that you ended up with a C-.

Dangit, why do I keep forgetting this. This is the second time now I’ve made this error. Shades is right and I am wrong.

Thanks guys. Good thing I posted here - nice wake-up call.
