Very common here. My kids and friends know each other, just like I know my kids’ friends. We are invited to 4 weddings in 2023 and they are all kids of our friends.

Clearly this has turned into a wedding thread. 
I mean, all things CC eventually do right?! 
If I’m invited as friends of the bride/groom parents and I don’t know the bride or groom personally or only know them to greet, I would feel very awkward attending their wedding. I would probably decline.
Def understand - if it’s what the bride/groom want - if parent friends are close neighbors or similar.
