General Airline Advice

I haven't been on an airplane in almost 11 years, any general advice for airline travel?

Also, general advice about living in the dorm for two nights would be appreciated.

Don't depend on airline food for nourishment. It's usually rather icky. And don't do a jigsaw puzzle on the airplane tray and expect to be able to cover it up with Glad press and seal wrap whenever turbulence comes along.

Wow, this time tomorrow I'll already be in the air. Yay!! I've actually never flown completely by myself before-- I've been in the airplane alone, but never had to get myself to the airport and go through check-in, so tomorrow might prove interesting. I'm planning on being there really early just so I don't feel panicked and rushed. If you're coming from New York it should be a pretty short flight to Roanoke, right? If it is, I'd just bring a book to read and put the stuff you'll need immediately in your carry-on in the overhead bin. Happy travels! See y'all tomorrow. :-)

yeah, Tegan, it's just two hours to New York

I spend two hours commuting to and from school on the subway everyday so no big deal. I was wondering more of advice during check in and stuff.

Yeah, I called my parents for that-- they said just be sure you're there early, have your confirmation numbers and your itinerary, your e-ticket, and your ID. My dad said to go striaght to the Delta counter and check in and check my bag and then go through security and I should be all set. Dunno if that helps you or not-- I'm still not entirely sure how functional and alert I'll be at 5 am, so if I end up in Boise or something, it would have been nice to meet y'all. ;-)

Okay, now I am getting really nervous. It started snowing here in New York City about two and a half hours ago and it's supposed to go on through the night so I don't know when (if?) my flight is getting of the ground. I called the travel agency to ask some questions and left a message, if they don't call back I guess I'll give a call to the admissions office. I hope to see you all tomorrow but with this weather....

Still snowing down here... reminds me of New England. :)

If you're flying US Airways, you can go to their website and print out a boarding pass online, save you time.

I even changed my seat from an aisle to a window.

Ooh..I don't know what my airline is. I'll check, thanks.

Edit: I'm at the place for seat selection, but I don't know which seats are aisle seats...any help? Thanks. :P

Edit: Figured it out mostly.

FYI - most airlines don't serve food these days - take a snack and a bottle of water with you in your carry on.

Most airlines will check you in at the curb also - can help to avoid long lines at the counter - you will need your ID til you get thru security. If you have a computer you will need to remove it from your carry on when you go thru security - and you will have to take your shoes off thru security also. Just kinda follow the crowd til you get thru security - then it is a snap. Good luck to all of you.

Go to the airline website and you can get your flight status and maybe even airport status - if bad weather in your area.
