any comments on the theology of ND (conservative v. liberal). also, how accepting are the students of other religions? how big of a role does catholicism play in social life at ND? any comments are much appreciated!

ND is very Catholic and for the most part very conservative. however i feel that most people are very accepting of other religions and you will not be made fun of for not being Catholic. However, I didn’t feel that it overpowered the social life. I feel like there are parts that deal with Catholicism like Dorm Mass which is a great experience, but it isn’t like all that ND students do is get together and pray the rosary every second of the day. While you can most likely find those at ND, it isn’t the norm. ND is very proud of its Catholic nature but I don’t feel like it oppresses everyone because of it.

thanks for your answer. how would you describe the level of rigor at ND (i’m interested in political science, pre law or something related to either)?

Very Catholic but also very open to other views. You don’t become a top 20 school by having a closed mind and being intolerant towards other opinions.

If you are planning to go there, there are plenty of non-Catholics and/or democrats. Just be prepared to back up your opinions and you will be treated with respect.

Academics are extremely rigorous. Between polisci and pre law I have heard that polisci is more difficult; however, both will be plenty challenging. Grade inflation, from what I have hard from multiple students, is basically non existent at ND. You have to work for your grades.

I don’t know what school you’re talking about, but as far as I know, there is no ‘pre-law’ at Notre Dame. The poly sci department is as hard as you want it to be. I’ve worked my butt off in classes because I liked the prof, and I’ve done absolutely nothing in other classes and come out with an A. It’s really up to you.
