General chancing question?

I attend a competitive (ranked by both Newsweek and USNWR) high school and am in the top 20% of my class. My SAT scores are good (1500/2300) and I have extremely solid ECs (yearbook editor-in-chief and co-captain of 2 varsity sports for 2 years). I know my recs were good, as were my essays. Honestly, the only thing that has ever worried me is my GPA. Unweighted it is a 3.684. I definitely have an upward trend and more AP classes than I should have taken so my weighted is high, but the fact of the matter is that I have a not-so-amazing GPA. Never have I ever been completely confidant in being admitted to some of the higher tier schools.
Recently, I was accepted to WashU and received a likely letter from Duke. This has certainly boosted my confidence, but now I wonder-- does that mean I have a real shot at some of the bigger universities too? Specifically, I mean Georgetown, UPenn and Columbia.

Thanks a million!

No one here can say what your chances at those schools are, but you should have a good chance. Georgetown is weird about admissions–I’ve only seen legacies admitted from my area–and I can’t speak for the quirks of UPenn or Columbia admissions, but your luck so far certainly bodes well.

Whatever happens, though, you have great options on the table!

With those SAT scores, yes you do have a chance. It depends on how highly ranked your school is, but if it’s in the top say, 20 schools, colleges know to expect lower GPA’s than they usually would. Class rank also helps show that even a lowish GPA is still a good one for the curriculum you’ve had.
