General Consensus Ragarding Gap Year/Semester?

I am curious regarding reactions to students taking a gap year/semester? When is it encouraged/deterred?

If you do something productive; it’s good. If you sit on your butt at home and play video games; it’s bad.
Wish I took a gap semester/year for medical reasons and volunteer/work while waiting until I was more mature to take classes again. Personally, it would have helped me focus more on what my goals are instad of haphazardly making decisions on the fly.

It’s encouraged if the pros outweigh the cons. Graduating at 23 or 24 versus 22 won’t make an iota of difference in your life. If you can make use of the year in some fashion then it’s something to be considered.
Even if its just to give yourself a mental break, provided you don’t waste the year doing nothing.

Between high school and community college, I had a year off. I spent it working. If you want to take a gap year to figure out what you want to do, I don’t see a problem with it. Just be productive, since you’ll likely be living with your parents. :)
